Sorry if this has been posted. I did search but didn't find anything.

After the eye poke and the fight was stopped I was anticipating a NC. Obviously everybody knows that was not the case. I was just wondering. Was this the right call? Should it have been a victory for Lawler, or should it have been a no contest?

Uhh, it was ruled a no contest

I think the NC ruling was good. The fight only went 2.5 rounds, thereby eliminating the possibility of someone winning a majority. Also, the eye poke was unintentional.

The only questionable thing is should the 3 remaining minutes to recover from the eye poke be given? I'm sure the fight would have continued after another 3 minutes rest period, what does the rule book say on that?

I think they get 5 minutes to recover as long as the doctor doesnt stop them but the doctors decision trumps all.
On a side note how long do you think this thread goes till it breaks down like the rest of the Elite XC section?

Doesn't the rules say he has 5 mins to recover? If so, then stopping this fight totally defeated the purpose of that rule because they stopped it after he said he couldn't see, but the 5 mins weren't up yet. Him saying he couldn't see was basically saying he hasn't recovered yet in the time he is allowed to use to recover .....That totally doesn't make sense to me.

I was VERY disaspointed when the fight was stopped. It was very exciting up until that point...

That combined with the overall sh!tty production and the lame Kimbo fight really reinforces in my mind how far ahead the UFC really is...(This was like something put together by a bunch of high school kids)
