Kim Couture talks about Carano not making weight

On Gina Carano's performance...

"I thought she pulled it off very nicely. I knew that front kick would come in handy. Sheís very confident in that front kick. She uses it a lot and I think she used that to control the fight. She controlled her and did it at her tempo."

On Gina Carano not making weight...

"Well, she was recording the 2nd season of American Gladiators, which took her far into the training time that she needed for this fight. We didnít see her at the gym until the last couple of weeks. She didnít have a lot of time to train. She came in over and we were all pretty disappointed in that. I sat in the sauna with her from 7 in the morning until 1:45 in the afternoon and we did the best that we could to try and get out what we could and I think all of the stress of that show made her realize that she doesnít want to go through anything like that again. When she has a fight coming up, she needs at least 6-8 weeks, maybe even 10 weeks to get prepared for her fights."

On her June 20th pro debut...

"I got to watch her fight at the Tuff-N-Uff show in Vegas at the Tropicana, but I only caught the tail end of that fight so Iíll watch some footage when I get back home. They got a couple of fights for me to check out. Itís my pro debut so Iím really looking forward to that. Weíre going to do three 5-minute rounds, which is different from Kaitlin and Ginaís fight that was three 3-minute rounds. It kind of sets precedents because there is no reason, as weíre trying to be accepted as professionals, that we canít fight three 5-minute rounds and if there is a championship at stake, five 5-minute rounds."

"My husband has been trying very hard to get me cauliflower ears. I didnít know how well I would do in wrestling. Iím kind of long and have a funky body so I didnít think I would be one of those people that would want to shoot in on somebody. Iíve really enjoyed learning the wrestling game and then joining it with my Jiu Jitsu game. Iím going to really enjoy taking her down. She has a boxing background and I donít mind banging for that first round, but then I want to take her down and see what I got on the ground."

On the free Friday Night Fights card...

"I think itís great; the fact that the show is going to be free, itís the 25th anniversary of the Thomas & Mack and to be able to do this for the locals and for people in Las Vegas is great. Weíre not trying to be a PPV or be the UFC, weíre just trying to give the fans something to do on a Friday night and weíll continue to do these shows as long as we get the people there and enjoying them. Itís Friday Night Fights so what better way to do it than to give them a little bit of boxing and MMA."

I know she catches a lot of flak, but it's really a pretty good read.

That's not a good idea for Carano. She's lucky she didn't get knocked out.

Any fighter that wants to wait and train for only two weeks before competition is succepable to being at a strong physical and psychological disadvantage.

Glad she was able to pull of the win.

Hopefully she revamps her training methods if she continues to take MMA seriously. If she continues to train like that, she'll lose one of her next three.

This isn't the first time Gina has failed to make weight, she is not exactly going on an "Iron man" run, so she has no real excuses, other than "Im making dumb decisions"

Strangely enough, Gina Carano started training in martial arts when she went to a gym with her then boyfriend and the trainer called her fat. Gina's got those genetics where it's probably easy for her to pack on weight and difficult to take it off. Also many women in general seem to have difficulty keeping off the weight as opposed to men. Add in a drastically reduced training period and there's no way she's cutting enough weight in time. She is much too large a girl to be in the 140lbs division.

If this were a male division where there are huge lineups of fighters willing to go, she'd be given more than a little flak, but as it is, female divisions are anemic and they sort of need her to keep them afloat with a recognizable face. Hopefully she works through her problems, gets into a better routine that helps her ease into the proper weight for fights.

I don't like it, and don't think it's fair to her opponents, but I do understand it.

Not a vast abundance of female athletes at this point so like you said she gets the pass.

Gina at her best is for the moment ahead of her time. In my opinion.
