"MMA Rated is reporting that the Fedor Emelianenko-Tim Sylvia bout on the July 19 Affliction card will be for the WAMMA heavyweight title. For those that don’t know, WAMMA is the World Alliance of Mixed Martial Arts (In the interest of full disclosure, I’m on the rankings committee, as is Ariel Helwani, Sam Caplan, and a bunch of other guys). This would be the first title put up by WAMMA, and in a fight with two men ranked first and fourth respectively in the heavyweight division."

Affliction VP Tom Atencio confirmed the report, and while it might not yet be the most meaningful title in the world, it does add a little extra interest to the Fedor-Sylvia bout.

I think this could be both good and bad for the sport.

I think that having titles given out by educated press members instead of biased promoters is good. However I hope this doesn't start a trend of 100 different ABC groups making titles.

as soon as i saw this i immediately thought of boxing and if this continues i could really see this becoming like boxing, though if a ton of people start developing titles i think most people would hate it so much that they would disregard all those titles as nothing and only acknowledge the ufc/dream titles

The two extra rounds are great(not that Fedor will need them unless he really decides to put on a clinic), but I don't like the idea of a title that just pops up seemingly out of nowhere. At least have a tournament format and a real build-up(re: DREAM) instead of just putting on a card with a random title fight as the headliner.

Of course no one can argue that Tim and Fedor aren't highly qualified, but is a title really all that prestigious when both of the fighters are so much better known than the belt?

But the fact is, if Fedor wins this title it's obvious he's the undisputed HW champion of the world. Who's going to dispute it, Nog?

im talking about the future if theres a ton of titles, atm with only 1 its ok but if 5 or 6 develop i think that alot of people will view them as trophies rather then titles,
