Melendez is overrated.

He was exposed in the fight with Ishida and now he gets tooled by Thomson. I'm not sure where all these major MMA sites come off ranking him so high, but I'm glad he's been beaten again. I've never really been overly impressed with the guy anyway.

So does anyone else agree that he's overrated? Or do you guys think he'll bounce back and beat some big fighters?

I've thought he was over rated after stealing a W from Guida.

Yea he probably is pretty overrated. Should've been in the LWGP so we could've seen how he stacked up wih the top LW's although I will say in the LW divison the difference between #1 and like #15-20 isn't much. Unless you count BJ who is kinda much better than everyone else except JZ.

Josh Thompson was class last night.
Melendez seemed very lackluster.

Beating Kawajiri is very very impressive. I can see why he was top 10.
But people who were ranking him top 5, hmm.

EDIT: I personally had him ranked 9th.

Gil had no answers for Thomson... anywhere. I could hardly believe what I was watching. After being completely owned for the first two rounds, he just seemed to give up. And just as he started to get comfortable striking, Thomson threw him off with those leg kicks and some great footwork.

Thomson looked quite impressive, but the Melendez that stepped in there last night was definitely NOT a top-ten LW. He has to decisively beat another top-tier opponent to justify his place in the rankings.

And I agree that beating Kawajiri was very impressive. I actually have Pride Shockwave 06 and watch it all the time. But after being exposed by Ishida, I wouldn't rank him past 8. I was referring to all the top 5 ranks that he gets (like you said). It's just baffling.

And like you guys were saying, LW is a very difficult division to cut apart and rank right now. But I thik it's between BJ, Aoki, JZ, Gomi, and a tossup for the fifth guy for Top 5.

This.

Thomson has been underrated ever since he got his head kicked off by Yves Edwards.
