Need Encouragement.

On Monday I broke my rib in BJJ training. My opponent (265lbs) was trying to pass my guard, and as he did so I turned my hips the opposite way to go for a heel hook and he landed on me. My 3rd rib from the top on the left side is cracked from my armpit to about 2 inches from the sternum. I thought it was just a bruised muscle, but I went to the doc to get x-rays and he found the break. Unfortunatly, the healing time is a minimum of 4 weeks he said if I'm a fast healer and I take it easy. I have a fight coming up on Nov 11th and if I do get a release it'll only be 2 days before the fight, so I'm not even sure if I'll even get to make it, since I won't be able to train. I'm also worried because I've made some good progress in the gym and with my weights, muay-thai and BJJ, and I don't want it to go to waste. I have worked my ass off for this fight and I'm just devistated now, plus I could've used the extra money.

Any words of encouragement or advice on what to do, or if you've been in this situation, what you did. I am so upset about it. I don't want to sit at home and gain weight or lose any of my muscle development. I am so used to training everyday, and I lived for it. I went to the gym yesterday anyway to watch others train and I sat in the steam room for a while, but I'm so bummed out.

Thanks for any advice or encouragement.

P.S. NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER sneeze with a broke rib! I did, and I though that the hand of God had come down on me.

Well especially don't worry about ur loss in mass. Muscle has memory. Once you get to a certain points it's easy getting back once you've been there. As for the broken rib, I've never had one. Just hang in there friend, keep ur head up

Don't fight on the 11th, you could make things worse and end your career extremely early. Good luck with the recovery.

Yep, cancel your fight for the 11th. You don't want to take the chance of injuring yourself more. Plus, without training for that long...

I just came off of a cracked sternum. I know how it feels.
The worst part is missing class.

I was going to say dont fight. But that is a decesion your going to have to make. All I can say is a while a go, I really wanted to play this football game against our teams rival. It was in the middel of January and I had gotten a 103.01 degree fevear. So I sucked it up and played in the game. After that I ended up going to the hospital and was severly sick for 2 months, missed school and was withdrawn ofr lack of attendence. So fight if you want but just know the consequences could run real deep.

Yeah, with all of the progress you've been making, why take a huge risk of reinjuring yourself and prolonging your return to active competition? Just cancel your fight, work yourself back up to 100%, and I imagine you'll be just as good, if not better than you would have been in your fight on the 11th.

Good luck, hope it heals quickly.

I too broke a rib before a fight earlier in my career, and it took longer than 4 weeks for it to heal. i would not take the fight speaking from experience if i were you since i did, i was gone for 3 months after the fight coz of the damage it took.. You have to make a decision and i know it sucks to skip a fight but i seriously think you should since its only gonna get worse

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm cancelling the fight. It's not reasonable to try and go in hurt anyhow. It would only hurt my performance, and could cause me to lose and still end up in pain. Thanks for the advice and encouragement. I'll be back!
