Why height in MMA is overrated?
Now im not some bitter short guy who is 5'2 or anything, but I have noticed that height is overestimated in weight classes in MMA. I understand that being long has advantages (primarilly in striking) but being short for a weight class has serious advantages in grappling, strength, and center of gravity. I always hear announcers state things like "johnson's 6'2 inches of height at 185lbs gives him a distinct reach advantage over his 5'7 opponent." Yes, but the 6'2 guy will look like a twig compared to the incredibly stronger opponent, since most of his weight will be in bone length and not muscle! Its unreal how much height is overplayed in my opinion, and in grappling it can actually be a disadvantage.
