This is my first installment of "Retro Watch Vale Tudo", Damone and some of the other's here do such a great job with UFC and Pride Retro Watches, I figured I would dust off some of my VT DVD's, pop one in and tell all you fine people about it.
If you like Headbutts, Marc Coleman cornering people, Paul Varelans getting whomped, Pat Smith bugging out and obscure Brazilian Fighters than you came to the right place, because This is WVC 5 Brazil vs The World!!!
Oh yea, did I forget to mention Igor Vovy is in this too?
We are in what looks like a beautiful resort city in Brazil, There will be a standard 8 man tourney, fights will be fought in a Cage rather than the traditional ring. The announcer's are kinda on the low end but could be worse. One of them keeps jabbering on about how fit Paul Varelans looks, he lost 100 lbs for this event and supposedly is training harder than ever. Don "The Dragon" Wilson is in the crowd, all the fans give him a big applause when the camera catches him. Don bows to the crowd, looking like he knows he's the shit, which he is, because "The Dragon" would'nt be caught dead watching some mainstream MMA show.
Now Marc Coleman and Marc Kerr are in the center of the Octegon, somebody hands Kerr a mike and he talks about how much he loves Brazil yadda yada yada. Coleman is just standing there with a championship belt on looking badass as usual.
RD 1 First Fight
Nick Nutter vs Lucio Carvahlo
Lucio is a local fighter who practices BJJ and capoara. Nutter is a freestyle wrestler, being cornered by none other than Marc Coleman. Nutter is basicly a less skilled version of Kerr, which could be enough for him to win this.
The fighters feel eachother out for a minute, then Nutter shoots in and secures a TD. Nutter's basicly LnPing, working a few headbutts and short punches from the gaurd. Carvahlo is pressed up against the cage trying to work some elbows from the bottom, Then Nutter lands a few big punches, postures up and rains a few heavy shots down. carvahlo taps out due to strikes. It was probably the wise thing to do because he wasn't going to get out from underneath Nutter. The best thing about this fight was that it was quick.
They interview Nutter ringside after the fight, It's a pretty bland interview, Nutter says he's happy he didn't get injured in the 1st rd. Coleman is now talking about fighting Couture in May in UFC, he's upset about getting beat by Mo Smith and letting his Brazilian fans down. Coleman Friggin rules, too bad him vs Randy never happened.
RD 1 Second Fight
Paul Varelans vs Waldir dos Anjos
Varelans is billed as a trapfighter and the stupid announcer keeps talking about how great varelans looks. Could this dude be Paul Varelans biggest fan? He's totally on his nuts which is funny because it's friggin Varelans. Paul is looking trimmed down but flabby, he is sporting the Bas Rutten shaved head and is wearing what appears to be bicycle shorts. Not the usual Varelans that we know and love but a "new look" Polar Bear. Dos Anjos is a Vale Tudo fighter wieghing in at only 185. In Varelan's pre fight promo he says he's been sharpening his skills, I didn't know he had any
. Oh Well, Varelans rules anyway.
Walder comes out and land a nice roundhouse kick, Varelans answers back with some punches, they are basicly trading blows in the center of the Cage and I am liking it. Dos Anjos is picking Varelans apart landing some big overhand rights and working the leg kicks, which Varelans really hates. Now Varelans lands some sloppy punches of his own and tries to catch Dos Anjos in a guillatine, he lands a big knee from that position which appeared to hurt Dos Anjos. Varelans continues to stalk Dos Anjos landing big shots and even throwing some very awkward looking leg kicks. He gets Dos Anjos against the cage and lands 2 heavy punches. Dos Anjos then verbally taps and the crowd is pissed. Dos Anjos gave up to Paul Varelans what a joke, Very wierd ending to a decent fight.
Varelans is ringside talking about his new skills, saying that he's been training with Frank Shamrock and then looking back at the beating he took from Kerr. He has rededicated himself and is now ready to face elite competion.
RD 1 Third Fight
Pat Smith vs Marco Selva
Smith enters the cage and Coleman gives him a pat on the back, Smith is looking all Jamie Foxx like. Marco Silva is a streetfighter from Brazil who last fought in Vale Tudo 7 years ago, according to the announcers he fought Marco Ruas to a draw in his last fight.
The 2 fighters immedietly engage, Smith lands a nice hook and then takes Selva down, gets an immediate mount and starts drilling Silva in the face, Silva tries to hug Pat keeping him close, but Smith starts raining down with downward elbows. Silva is able to escape and get to his feet. Smith comes right at him landing some good shots. Marco Selva is now cut pretty bad over the eye, Smith is looking real good and keeps coming after him. Smith's hand looks broken, but he is still attacking, Pat lands a nice standing elbow and continues to attack Selva. Marco Selva is getting tooled, Pat Smith Rules!! Smith lands a really nice high kick. Selva starts to retreat and then verbally taps. Great fight, but another disappointing ending.
Pat Smith is being interviewed cageside, he says he's been working on his grappling and is happy to be moving on. Boring Interview overall, Pat Smith is so much better when he flakes out.
RD 1 Fourth Fight
Igor Vovchanchin vs Tullo Palheares
Igor Vovy needs no introduction and is the clear favorite to win this tourney. Vovy tries to cut a promo, he says he's Russian and is a Kickboxer, a man of few words, but that's fine because I love watching him Punch people in the face. Palheras is a last minute entry who's fighting style is listed as Chinese Kickboxing and they say he is a former Vale Tudo Champ.
The fight starts and they both kinda feel eachother out in the center of the cage, the two trade a few leg kicks then Palheares shoots in and secures a takedown. Vovy pulls guard and Tullio is pretty much nutreulized. Tullio lands a hard groin shot and Vovy quickly gets up to his feet. Then Vovy answers back with a knee to the ground of his own, Then Paelhares comes back with another groin shot. The ref warns Pealhares about the groin shots, apparently the fighters all had a gentlemans agreement not to strike in the groin even though they are legal, the announcers are confused by this. They clinch against the cage Tullio is working for a takedown, lands a few headbutts and knees to the thigh, but Vovy won't go down. The ref seperates them, Igor isn't looking great, they kinda circle around for awhile and then Tullio all of a sudden quits?? WTF, dude was actually winning the fight, then just quits?
Oh Well, Thats Vale Tudo. Fight was boring anyway and we get more Vovy so I'm happy it's over. The fans are booing Tullio really bad and Chanting Puta. Dude knew he was gonna get KO'd and probably made the right decision.
MarK Kerr is being interviewed now and is wearing the ugliest shirt I have ever seen. Kerr is talking about how much he loves Brazil and the Brazilian fans. Now Kerr is badmouthing SEG, he says he wants to fight in Brazil and in Japan, but he can't because of his contract with SEG. The interviewer then asks Kerr to flex, Kerr takes his shirt off and flexes his roided out muscles. Kerr almost looks gay, hell he looks very gay.
Now they are interviewing Don "The Dragon", who rules, the camio's have been better than the fights so far. Don is talking about some movie he is working on, He says it's like "Taxie Driver" only he's in it instead of DeNiro. Yea OK Don, you're cool because you look like a nerd but you're are actually a badass, but Robert DeNiro you are not.
RD 2 Fight 1
Nick Nutter Vs Paul Varelans
Varelans' Kryptonite is freestyle wrestling and that's all Nutter knows. Both guys have lost to Igor in the past and are hungry for a 2nd crack at him. Nutter lost to Igor in a fight he was dominating, but Igor kept headbutting Nutter from the bottom until Nick Tapped from exhaustion. Igor's face was swollen and cut up, Nutter put a serious hurting on Vovy, but you have to kill Igor, It took Nutter about a 1/2 hour to realize this.Varelans was brutally KO'd by Igor in a very fun fight that Vovy dominated. Varelans getting KO'd - GREAT, Igor KOing someone - GREAT, Igor KOing Varelans - Words can't describe it

They just announced that Pat Smith will not be continuing due to a broken hand, what a shame, because Smith looked the best out of everyone so far.
The fight starts and Nutter Shoots, taking Varelans down, Paul pulls gaurd and is trying for a choke while Nutter works to gain dominant position. Nutter gets side mount and lands some big knees to the side of Varelans head. Varelans gets back into gaurd and eats some punches, Nutter is now slowly mauling Varelans. Why do I feel like I have seen this before?Paul is trying for what looks like a triangle, but's not even close. Nutter continues to rain down shots. Nutter mounts him and is landing some hard punches, Varelans is now cut pretty bad, Nutter continues to pummel Varelans, landing headbutts and pounding on his face, varelans is a bloody mess. The ref see's the cut and stops the fight. Varelans is very pissed, his face is covered in blood. A great Varelans beatdown, Nutter brutally whomped him and that's why I bought the damn DVD.
They are now interviewing Nuter but the audio is screwed up, Doesn't matter much because Nutter is a pretty crummy interview. According to the announcer's Nutter called out Igor.
RD 2 Fight 2
Igor Vovy vs Elias Rodrigues
Elias is touted as a Thia Boxer and a good replacement fighter, Pat Smith broke his hand in 7 places and says he's going to work on his jitz. Pat Smith rules! Vovy looks focused and doesn't care who he fights.
The two fighters engage, Vovy lands some hard left hands, moving in and out, while Rodrgues tags Igor with some leg kicks. Both fighters are throwing haymakers and Vovy lands some big knees from the clinch, I am really digging this.They seperate and Elias starts to taunt Igor, they paw at eachother for awhile, then Igor lands a huge left, flooring The Brazilian. Igor lets him up and they circle around for awhile longer. They clinch and Igor lands a standing headbutt right on the nose of Rodrigues, Rodrigues answers back with a leg kick and Vovy continues to punch him in the face. They Circle around for awhile longer, damn Igor is looking pudgier than usual. Rodrigues throws a lazy kick twords Vovchanchen, which Igor ctaches and then sweeps him to his back, Vovy steps back and lets him get back up. Swank move but Igor should have went for the kill. Elais is trying to takedown Igor to no avail. Igor is now punching him in the face some more. Igor then gets kicked in the groin Rodrigues allows Igor to recover, good sportsmanship for a Vale Tudo fight. They resume the fight, Igor throws some haymakers then literally picks up Rodriguez and throws him to the ground, Vovy lands some knees from sidemount and drops some elbows, now he switches to full mount and is raining down punches, Rodrigues taps while mounted. Good fight overall, Igor looks a little slow but he did some nice damage.
They are talking to Don "The Dragon" again, this time presenting him with an award. The award is basicly because Don Wilson is a pimp. "The Dragon" is gracious but acts like he doesn't give a crap, says a few words and is like "peice out".
Championship Bout
Igor V vs Nick Nutter
This is Nutters shot at revenge, He tooled Igor the first time they met but but Vovy still found someway to win. Igor hasn't looked great and Nutter has pretty much dominated his fights with his wrestling. The Two favorites meet in the finals.
Nutter Shoots in and takes a huge knee right on the button, Nutter is out cold, dude is asleep in the middle of the cage. Igor Vovy by KO in 14 seconds. Nutter finally wakes up and Coleman tells him he just got KTFO'd!!
Vovy wins in great fashion and is crowned the WVC Champ!
Overall the fights weren't the greatest, but I did get to see Varelans get brutally Whomped, Igor KO some fools, Pat Smith punching and kicking someone, Don "The dragon", Coleman looking like a badass and Kerr looking like a Jackass.
Overall I give it a 6/10
