There are really only a few fighters that can effectively confuse other fighters with stance changes, you have to do it with speed and throw at awkward angles. I used to love it when guys would switch up because it's fairly easy to catch guys off guard when they are making the switch.
Using your non preferred hand as a decoy or a jab is much more effective than switching up over and over. With that said, if you can switch up and throw effectively you can put on very exciting fights and keep your opponent off balance.
you have to know how to do it you cant randomly say ok im switching stances. I use a lot of mit work so I can flow between left and right. Guys in boxing and kick boxing that can switch hit are some of the toughest guys to beat. My favorite combination is
jab > cross ,left hook, cross (cross sends them back a bit) step in to close distance and that switches your stance to right as lead hand then I instantly hit with right to the body then right to the head making my lead hook my power hand. Then come back with a left cross and a right hook.
Thats a knock out combination because the hook is a power shot if you can get your dominant hand as your lead hook alot of people will be screwed. De La Hoya does this.
