EliteXC's parent company likely to sign with FSN

Quote:
ProElite, Inc., the parent company of EliteXC and an MMA organization that has current broadcast deals with CBS and Showtime, could soon add FSN to the mix.

ProElite, Inc. Executive Chairman Doug DeLuca on Tuesday confirmed that the two companies are in talks and that an announcement could be made soon.

FSN (formerly known as FOX Sports Net) has been gradually increasing its MMA presence. Just last week the collection of cable TV regional sports networks aired a one-hour undercard of "Affliction: Banned," and the IFL, PRIDE, Art of War and even the UFC have been broadcast in the past.

DeLuca first hinted at a third broadcast partner last week, and he didn't limit the possibilities to just the EliteXC brand. After all, ProElite Inc.'s 2007 shopping spree netted organizations such as ICON Sport, Cage Rage, King of the Cage, Spirit MC and others.

"I can't talk too much about it, but we're probably going to announce another broadcast deal pretty soon with a cable network ... where you'll see all our brands in action," DeLuca said last week.

During a media call on Tuesday, he was asked to clarify the comments and whether they specifically pertained to FSN.

"We're not prepared to really talk about anything in detail, but we certainly are talking," he said. "You'll probably see something soon."

However, FSN Executive Vice President George Greenberg may have already tipped his hand. At last week's "Affliction: Banned" press conference, he said it was only a matter of time before ProElite had a presence on the network.

"For us at FSN, we've shown UFC, we've shown PRIDE, we've shown the IFL, and we're about to show ProElite," Greenberg said.

However, it's unknown if the deal would result in live event broadcasts or perhaps a highlights show similar to Strikeforce's weekly presence on NBC. Regardless, with ProElite's many properties and a growing library of event footage and a host of upcoming events, either -- or both -- scenarios are possible.

I think it would be real solid if ProElite did a UFC Unleashed type show on FSN, showcasing fights from all the organizations that they own. A good way to build their stars, and more importantly build up and expose MMA.

Support Mixed Martial Arts, not Ultimate Fighting

Whatever they air, it needs to be unedited. I found the PRIDE FSN show unwatchable, since they cut to random crowd shots (from random events) whenever the actual fight part of the fights occurred. Then there's Strikeforce on NBC, which skips entire rounds. If you're going to air it, air it right.

So that would be a network broadcasting fighting without the fighting? The genius of these companies continues to astound me.
