This isn't a huge suprise, in fact I don't even remember seeing commercials for it like I did for the other one. Plus the lack of a household name is going to hurt them.

That's too bad, because this show was a tremendous improvement in all aspects over their debut. Now, we're likely to see them compensate by going in the polar opposite direction next time.

I'm glad you showed up, I wanted your opinion on this subject:

Do you think there's any possibility they were "testing the waters" with the new format? I mean they really blew up that first event promoting and the backlash from press and fans alike was brutal.

I'm hoping they were testing the new format on the handful of diehards that check the interwebs enough to know that this event was even happening in hopes of recieving some positive feedback and generating a buzz about it among the viewers that did tune in.

That would give them a chance to work out any kinks before the big show on Oct. 4 which they will undoubtedly promote the hell out of. It's in Kimbo's backyard, so the audience will be in high numbers, super loud and active. The press will certainly be watching, etc.

What do you think the chances of that are?

That's a possibility, since this show wasn't originally even scheduled to take place between May and October's.

I think it's likely that CBS got more involved, along with the shuffles on the EliteXC side with Gary Shaw, resulting in a more sport-oriented production.

On the one hand, the first show got much higher ratings. On the other, now you've got a show that doesn't run an hour and a half over and presents itself as a professional sport, not a circus. The question is, which does CBS truly want, ratings or legitimacy?

I didn't see much if any advertising for this event. They need to relax because this past fight night was great. They need to start advertising, keep putting on a good show and they will be just fine.

as embarrassing as i found the previous EXC/CBS event i thought this one was done very well from a production standpoint. CBS clearly took notice of Bill Goldberg's poor performance and replaced him, they ditched the used-up-looking retired strippers and placed the focus on the fighters. Can't argue with them keeping Shaw out of the lime-light either, although i think fighter interviews were painfully short and should have delved into future match-ups and the likes.

Can't say the matchups were particularly interesting to me other than the rematch. Even as a hardcore Diaz fan, i had trouble getting excited about that matchup.

All in all this was a far better showing than the first and i applaud CBS for making these changes. It's just too bad a EXC/CBS card seems to need Kimbo to carry it with more of their casual fans.

Makes one seriously wonder if MMA really has arrived yet. If they could muster a couple other marquee names then we might be talkin but i don't know how many big names want to sign if there are additional conditions to fighting on CBS cards, as is the roomer.

really?? I thought Lawler/Smith was damn good, better than the 1st time for the fact it was finished in an exiting fashion. I agree about Frank though, I was gunna make a whole thread about that but decided not too...WTF!!? This guy looks absolutely crazy when he is announcing. His teeth and his crazy head shaking is nuts. He has a good voice for it I just don't think they should make everyone look at his ugly ass while he talks! Show some highlights or something
