Strikeforce LW Champ Josh The Punk Thompson Wants Frank Shamrock

Quote:

MMAFighting.com: Okay. Well, now you’re the champ. Any idea on who’d you like to fight next?

Josh Thomson: We were leaning towards Jorge Masvidal, but then he went and got his ass kicked in Japan by Rodrigo Damn. I guess after all the trash talking he did he couldn’t really hold up his end of the bargain.

Right now, I’m really looking forward to maybe getting in the works with some sort of fight with Frank Shamrock. (I’m) probably going to try and come up a little bit in weight.

He’s done a lot of bad talking I guess about me. I just have a strong feeling that I could beat him. I think that we were able to show a little bit— Cung Le trained with me and Javier Mendez for that fight— and I think with a game plan executed perfectly I think we can beat him. I think that’s another thing that Frank’s a little concerned about. I don’t think he’s interested in fighting me. But I think now that he’s lost and shown ways to beat him, I think I can execute a game plan that would obviously beat him.
Quote:

I’ve trained with him before in the past and he’s done some things through the internet, criticizing me and stuff. So I guess it all comes down to whether he feels like he’s ready to fight. If he wants to fight and he entertains the fact that he’d like to fight me, then that’s somebody I’m really interested in fighting.

Josh wants to move up in weight to fight Frank, this would be an absolutly awsome fight. And Thompson wants to put it together.

Thomson would get owned and I would love it.

Please put that fight together.

At least someone in the US wants to bring the PRIDE feeling overseas. But I think Frank is way above this fight and has plenty more appealing fights like Tito/Frank II or a rematch with Cung.

I want to see him fight Robbie Lawler. But he's had a vendetta with JT for some time. So they got a score to settle.

Frank via disgusting ass kicking.

Now this doesn't make a lick of sense. I still think Frank is a little washed up. I know you're all going to jump on me. I don't care that's what I think dagnabit. I still think that thompson is too small. Frank can fight at LHW, and is definitely a big MW. Why doesn't Thompson stay in his lane and try to fight someone like Noons, who he'd destroy. He could also fight Eddie Alvarez with much more disastrous results.

Josh could win this, if he went up to about 175 in weight, they could have a catchweight match. Shamrock's not as flexible or fast as he used to be, so his submission game has taken a hit and his punches can be nullified with leg-kicks to put him off-balance. Maybe the weight-cut to LW is hard for Josh, if it is, he might be even more dangerous at a higher weight-class, like Alistair Overeem.

He is. But if he wants to gain weight to prove something he'll be about 8 pounds different come fight time.

The thing is, Josh and Frank really, really hate eachother. But Frank has always pretty much written Josh off. And just called him Gay. Now Josh wants to come up in weight, lets see him try to carry that weight in a fight. That's a 30 pound difference he's gonna be pushing.

I think Noons would be a good match up for him. I don't think he'd destroy K.J.

Alvarez would roll through Josh. And that would be fun to watch.

tomson vs kj would be a good fight. josh is too small for frank though what is he thinking? like that fight could realisticly happen. im thinking frank wants lawler next so and frank wants to fight in october or november so it could be on the next cbs card. that would be a good fight. the elite xc mw title be on the line probably.

I think the problem will be two fold for Josh. He may be able to gain weight, but I don't think he will get as strong as Frank. Also Frank will have a very definite reach advantage.

I really don't think any of the top LW need to worry about Noons. If he didn't cut Diaz, I don't think he would even be the champion. I think Thompson, Melendez, or Diaz would beat him. The guy has no ground game.

No argument here. I think Thompson loses by ass whoopin in round 1.

Damone 08-14-2008 04:08 PM

I think Thomson would beat Eddie Alvarez. Better stand-up, good wrestling and a better sub game. Why people think Alvarez would kill him is beyond me. Then again, most counted him out when he faced Melendez and treated Thomson's win as some sort of upset.
