I dunno, I went into this fight very high on Shields. But after watching how poor his striking was and how is GNP wasn't even able to damage Daley...I have to be honest that I'm not as high on him now. His wrestling is 1st class no doubt and he's beaten some great guys, but there is a bad taste left in my mouth after watching him last night.

Same here....Dude has no punching power at ALL!!! His GNP was horrible...Daley was laughing at him....He would get wrecked in the UFC...Wrecked...Diego...Kos...Thigo..Karo...Swick. ..And a guy named GSP would ass-**** him

I agree. Going into last night I thought Shields was the #2 WW in the world. Anyone with a brain knew from the start that Shields would eventually get a submission, but his striking was horrendous. I know he's not a striker, but he needs to be able to strike to get inside and shoot. Maybe last night his timing was just off, but I definitely moved him out of my top 5. I mean honestly would what he did last night have worked against GSP, Koscheck, Fitch, of Alves. I also think he would have a hard time against someone who has descent striking and a good ground game like Hughes or Sera, but hopefully he just had a bad night with his timing.

Shields gassed like 2 minutes into that fight too. Better hope he just had a bad cut or something because if he goes against guys like GSP, KOS and Fitch whose gas tanks go for days hes gonna be in trouble.

Also how long does it take to bang a guy out or sub him with no ground game in full mount? Dude had that shit for days and it took him way to long to finish him. I almost thought Elite was paying him to let it go to the second round.

Shields may not have looked as crisp as he usually does, but he did his job.

He had Daley mounted 3 times, went for three arm bars, scored 4 takedowns and ended the fight in the second by submission.

He was never rocked or hurt by Daleys punches, and so what if he didn't want to engage with Daley in a standing war. He was smart for not trading with a guy who has about 13 knockouts out of 15 victories or so.

Bottom line is he played his game and won. As far as gassing is concerned, his tank has never emptied in a fight. He's been the distance before.

A sloppy performance doesn't take away from the fact that he hasn't lost since '04 and has solid victories over decent opponents. Even Semtex is a notch in his belt. Every one has an off night. I find it funny how one sloppy performance is erasing years of accomplishments in some peoples eyes.
