Rogers vs Buentello to be added to the Nov 8th EliteXc Show

A clash of heavyweight titans Brett “The Grim” Rogers and Paul “The Head Hunter” Buentello is expected to be officially announced by EliteXC as having been added to its Nov. 8 event at the Reno Events Center in Reno, Nevada.

FiveOuncesOfPain.com confirmed the news with Rogers’ trainer, Mike Reilly of Team Bison in St. Paul, MN earlier this morning. Reilly indicated that bout agreements are expected to be signed within the next few days but that verbal commitments from both fighters have already been secured.

“Brett is very excited to be getting back into the cage after such a long layoff and is excited to be taking on such a great opponent,” Reilly told Five Ounces of Pain. “Paul presents the biggest test of Brett’s career. He’s a great fighter and we have a ton of respect for him and we’re really excited to step up to that next level challenge.”

Rogers last competed on May 31 during EliteXC’s “Primetime” event in Newark, N.J. Fighting Jon Murphy in what will go down as the first-ever mixed martial arts fight ever broadcast on primetime network television in the U.S., Rogers improved to 8-0 following a first round TKO over the former Syracuse University linebacker.

Buentello is a veteran of both the UFC and Strikeforce promotions and had been scheduled to fight former IFL heavyweight champion Roy Nelson on Oct. 11 under the Affliction Entertainment banner until the card had to be postponed.

Buentello, 26-10, last competed during Affliction’s debut event on July 19 in Anaheim, Calif. where he recorded a unanimous decision victory over Gary Goodridge.

The addition of Rogers vs. Buentello means that a planned 140 pound female attraction between Kaitlin Young and Sarah Kaufman will be relegated to the non-televised undercard.

EliteXC’s Nov. 8 “Night of Champions” event will be televised on SHOWTIME and will feature EliteXC middleweight champion Robbie Lawler defending his title vs. Joey Villasenor along with Eddie Alvarez and Nick Diaz squaring off against each other for the vacant EliteXC lightweight title. The show will also feature Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante taking on a yet-to-be-named opponent and an opening bout between Scott Smith and former Cuban Olympic Judoka Hector Lombard.

Rogers is going to KO Buentello, I read like a week or two ago when this fight was first rumored that Buentello doesn't really want this fight because he doesn't think it will do anything for his career.

This is a good matchup for Rogers. Buentello is a vet. I actually think Buentello has a chance of taking this one.

Not so sure about it. Buentello can dish it out as well. It will certainly be Rogers toughest fight to date.

Buentello is past his best days but Rogers just isn't that good. His one purpose was to defeat Kimbo and now that someone else did it he is a mediocre one dimensional fighter that no one will ever hear of. He might beat Buentello, that fight can go either way but Rogers isn't going anywhere in MMA unless he suddenly sprouts a ground game from nowhere.

I think Rogers will take this as I think Buentello's past his prime, even though I never thought he was very good. But I dont see Rogers doing very much in the future.

Kind of bummed that this will cause the Kaitlin Young fight not to be televised. Buentello's last fight was pretty lackluster.

I think buentello will beat him. I also think that Elite XC is banking on it. That way they can shut Rogers up about deserving a fight with Kimbo. They don't want Kimbo to have another loss.
