CBS is one of the major television networks. In just the sports arena, it hosts March Madness, Sunday NFL, College Football,NYE and NYD Collegiate Bowl Games, etc. ad nauseum.
Not to mention it holds top ratings of ALL networks regularly with programming such as Survivor, Amazing Race, etc.
Spike has... Manswers, a terrible remake of Unsolved Mysteries, TNA Wrestling, and about 4 movies they play ad nauseum for 3-6 mo. time periods.
Spike is not even close to CBS.

The proof is in the public knowledge right? Thats where we get the term "mainstream". If you ask any joe on the street, that isn't involved or a big fan of MMA, about MMA fights they will invariably say "OH you mean the UFC" or something like that. My point is that normal joes don't even recognize "ELITE" by name. So how could Shaw be the harbinger of mainstream MMA?

Ask people that don't watch it at all, and they'll name:
1) Kimbo Slice
2) Brock Lesnar
It's not the promotion's name that was spread, it was the sport itself.

This maybe doesn't go for the U.S., but outside of USA UFC has done WAY much more for MMA to get MMA mainstream than EliteXC. NAd if you sum up ALL the international fans of the UFC I'd say you get a pretty high number.
Plus I think that while EliteXC might have done SOME for the MMA ==> Mainstream project they have also brought it back a lot with the whole Kimbo bullcrap.

Exactly. The only thing good Elite did was get on CBS. Anyone that has followed any of this stuff knows that is because UFC wasn't dumb enough to fall for the things CBA wanted to air their fights. Spike TV is just as good for MMA as CBS. None of the major networks will work hard at promoting fights at this point. I am sure that after the Elite trouble, it will be even harder. Elite was doomed to fail from the beginning. They rode in on what the UFC did, and then did everything wrong. Anyone that thinks otherwise must have not noticed the state of Elite as of late.

EXC was like a side show.
even when people not in the know were refering to EXC they called it "UFC". Why do you think that is?

Yes CBS is much much bigger, but they didnt advertise the fights much... they started to with the Kimbo v Seth fight, but that proved to be too little too late. And EXC was pretty stupid to sign that deal, i mean c'mon look at the cluster **** thats going on now with the fighter contracts.
and i wanted EXC the flourish.. i really truly did, then when Gary Shaw admitted that yeah he tells people to keep it standing, i lost all respect and was glad to see them fold... course i didnt know about how fighters would be screwed with the contracts... that part sucks, but The Shaw's out of the game is a very very good thing!!

Every major magazine in the US/Canada would love to have a Dana White interview in it, or even on the cover. Gary Shaw has to write to playboy to give his opinion, which is the same wrong opinion he had 9 months ago. And good job on getting your opinion printed on the place where it is most likely to not be read. Next to naked women. Nice going you idiot.

Exactly my opinion when I saw his letter in there. I actually laughed out loud when I thought about how Dana got a nice piece in the magazine and Shaw had to write in a letter
He might have got Elite on mainstream TV, but in so doing he set everything back 5 years with his stupid antics. What a Douchebag...
