Dec Playboy (Gary Shaw spewing)

I just opened up my December Issue of Playboy and when I got to the Dear Playboy section, I started reading a piece sent in about Dana White. As I read on, I could tell who it was from.

Yes, Gary Shaw wrote in to Playboy just like any other subscriber does to give his opinion on Dana's Interview. He went on to say how it was him that brought MMA into the mainstream with Showtime and CBS....even though anyone with a brain knows the UFC did that a long time ago with Spike. Yes for those that argue that Spike isn't a "major" cable network I suppose you may agree
Shaw complained about how Dana wouldn't cross promote and all the other whiny stuff that Elite needed to try to survive. Made it sound like Dana is lost and doesn't know what he's doing. The whole thing was pretty comical coming from a guy whose company when belly up even with the backing of Showtime and CBS and they cross promoted. Big ole pat on the back to ya there Mr Shaw

Yeah MMA would be nothing without what Shaw did. Fixing fights and bringing a subpar striker to put on freakshows against guys who should have stopped fighting years ago? This has really made MMA what it is today. Thanks!

In all seriousness, Shaw brought MMA to the full mainstream. No doubt he damages the overall reputation w/ the WWF/WWE like feel [i.e. Baroni entrance] and the ultimate exposure of a "superstar" in Kimbo, but Gina Carano became a household name and helped bring true legitimacy to an otherwise contained sport.

I.e. My Dad called me about the fights.

You have to give credit where credit is due. No doubt Dana and the UFC are the big dogs and have made mountains out of molehills, but Shaw pushed it past the peak and had at least laid the foundation for its ultimate mainstream legitimacy.

I couldn't disagree more....sorry. Shaw didn't do anything except maybe take MMA back a step or so. They got on CBS....but come on. CBS is no more mainstream than Spike. It's just larger. Gina would have been a household name without Elite. Elite laid the foundation? UFC did that long ago. Elite just made it to one of the major networks and made no good use out of it. UFC could have been on them long ago if they wanted the crappy structure they would have wanted them to use. No matter what....Shaw is an idiot and his response to Playboy was hilarious. Shaw wrote in a response....he wasn't interviewed. Just showed how successful he was and where he brought MMA
