Mark Ecko wants to buy ProElite?

Quote:
They have tapped into MMA just recently with their Ecko MMA Shorts and have sponsored fighters the like of John Fitch and Tyson Griffin.

Marc Ecko Enterprises rakes in 1.5 Billion in revenue a year.

Interesting enough, it is also reported that Showtime and Ecko recently signed a contract to work to gether on a videogame.

October 21, 2008 - New York, NY - Marc Ecko Entertainment and Showtime Networks
today announced that the upcoming “DEXTER” videogame for iPhone will be
“investigative” in style and developed by Icarus Studios.

Ecko's Involvement in MMA

Huntington Beach, CA (June 18, 2008) -The International MMA Expo, also known as IMMAE, will have product from the *ecko unltd. brand as well as sponsored athletes in attendance at their event from August 1st through 3rd at the Long Beach Convention Center. Marc Ecko Enterprises (MEE), through their *ecko unltd. brand, supports the sport of Mixed Martial Arts through both athlete sponsorships and with a clothing line branded with the MMA logo and iconic rhino and design imagery. Mixed Martial Arts is an emerging market and demographic for MEE and the *ecko unltd., which already holds massive mainstream support from teens and young adults coast to coast, and around the world.

Founded in 1993 by Marc Ecko, Seth Gerszberg, and Marci Tapper with just 6 T-shirt designs, Marc Ecko Enterprises has evolved into a full-scale global fashion and lifestyle company that reported global retail sales of over $1.5 billion in 2007.

IMMAE representatives released the following statement, "Having a global brand like *ecko unltd. in attendance adds a completely new dimension to a Mixed Martial Arts Expo such as IMMAE. Having the support of companies like Marc Ecko Enterprises, companies with the vision to see the future of MMA, the sport and the industry is destined to reach un-paralleled heights."

The *ecko untld. booth at IMMAE will have some of the top professional MMA fighters on hand signing autographs and greeting fans including Joe "Daddy" Stevenson, Jens "Lil Evil" Pulver, Frank Mir, and Nathan Diaz - one of the top stars of the Ultimate Fighter reality TV show on Spike TV. *ecko unltd. will also have branded items at discount prices available at their booth, including the first line of shorts bearing the MMA logo.

Eric Samson, MEE's combat sports marketing manager, stated, "We excited to be part of an event that showcases the emerging sport of Mixed Martial Arts. As a company, we pride ourselves on being out in front of sports and athletes that are setting trends and gaining momentum when others trail behind us".

Link to my previous report ProElite/EliteXC to Rise From The Dead Via KOTC.

According to sources, as many as three groups are believed to be vying for ProElite. Only the identity of one of the groups is certain, with multiple sources stating that a group led by King of the Cage promoter Terry Trebilcock has made a bid.

However, Trebilcock’s group is not considered the leading contender at this date. Sources will only go so far as to describe the top contender as a company with over a billion dollars in annual gross revenue that also is a recognizable name.
http://164mph.com/Mixed_martial_arts...-front-runner/

Nothing concrete in this story to prove that Ecko has put its bid in.

Proelite.com and Sherfrog are running storys about this with a bunch of guys claiming to have inside stories of Showtime and Ecko putting on EliteXC shows back on in 2009 and more.

I'll continue to research this topic and see what I can find for you guys.

Yeah I don't think I'd want something with hope for success having any affiliation with Hobo Slice. That being said the rest of the roster had some promise. The willingness to co-promote or work with Affliction would help too.

Man, you guys are crazy. EXC had a pretty good stable of fighters barring Slice. If they get rid of that turkey and turn to actual MMA under new management that would be awesome!

According to iguillotine.com Marc Ecko Enterprises is the leading bidder for ProElite, Inc. and the EliteXC brand. MEE hopes to inherit ProElite’s television contracts with both CBS and Showtime. Marc Ecko seems to be highly interested in MMA. He has launched a MMA focused collection with their launching partner, MMAwarehouse.com. He has sponsored some big names in the UFC including Nate Diaz, Michael Bisping, and Matt Hughes. And last year, when Sibling Sports’ M1 Global announced it was going to both sign fighting legend Fedor Emelianenko and produce a show in the US, the press conference was held at Ecko Enterprises. Mark Ecko Enterprises definitely has the bankroll for such a purchase if they’re really interested so don’t be surprised to see (MEE) go through with this. I also wouldn’t be surprised to hear from Dana White shortly after. There’s no question that you would no longer be seeing rhinos in the UFC octagon.

What is with the hate for EXC??? Minus the Shaws, this is a great company. And if someone else purchases it, the Shaws will be out of it.

And Kimbo will no longer be a headliner. lol!

But EXC brought us Smith vs. Lawler, Carano vs. everyone, Cyborg, Shields, Alvarez, Antonio Silva, they're open to co-promote with companies like DREAM, Strikeforce, and Affliction, and they are on CBS.

WTF is so bad about that???

I for one, hope they get bought and I get to see some more awesome fights.

I wasn't saying no to Elite XC, although I would like to see some of their stars fight the top UFC guys. I think it's pretty much undeniable that the UFC has the best WW and LHW divisions. I was saying no to Mark Ecko running it.
