MMA as an Olympic sport?

There are many combat sports in the olympics such as Boxing, Judo, Fencing and so on. Obviously not as brutal as the others but as any MMA fan knows the spirit of compitetion and it's beauty can't be denied forever...

Imagine; the 2012 summer games in London. Canadas Georges "Rush" St-Pierre takes on Japans Takanori "Fire ball kid" Gomi for the welterweight Gold medal... (I can dream can I)

The summer Olympics last a little less then a month so training for a match will be very different. How would you administer fights for the Olympics?

Maybe 1 fight a week for three weeks tournament style? With the winner advancing to the next round. The try-outs would be awsome as well; Team America with Matt Hughes and Nick Dias and Josh Koscheck as alternates. Team Brazil, Team Canada, Team Japan and so forth...

The day MMA arrives; it will be an Olympic sport, Chuck Liddell Gatorade commercials. Fighters standings in the morning paper. ESPN early sunday segments before football, with highlights from saturdays UFC fights the night before.

MMA will truly arrive one day to compete with big boys like American Football and Baseball in ratings, fighter contracts and big time sponsors.

It would probably never be full contact and would be for points like TKD it could be kinda lame, also only amateurs would be allowed compete.

Correct me if im wrong.

Juanez13 has a little shameless behaviour in the past
I don't think it will happen maybe Submission Wrestling but MMA I don't see happening for a long time. As it stands now boxers have to wear head gear so think about how limited MMA would be. Even then they kind of already have grappling because they have Judo, Sambo, Greco-Roman and Freestyle Wrestling.

I think the best chance for anything somewhat close to MMA to be in the olympics, it would be Combat Sambo. I think that would be the closest we could get, but even than it wont happen for a very long time.

Exactly, UFC is not going to let their fighters go in there and compete but you never know.

Also don't you know how many medical suspensions they give out after fights? If anything I would love to see submission wrestling put in as an Olympic sport.
