Do FW's and BW's cut a lot to make weight??
Anybody know?
We hear alot about weight cutting in the other weight classes but never about Featherweight or Bantamweight.
Do a lot of these guys walk around at 145 or 135?
Torres looks really lean, I could see him maybe cutting like 5 lbs. Whereas a guy like Leonard Garcia is pretty big for the division.

For a long time the majority of FW's and BW's didn't cut much.
But now with guys like Mike Brown, and Lenoard Garcia at FW they are forcing some of the smaller FW's to cut to BW.
So it is starting to occur at the smaller weights now but it wasn't before.

i dont really know but I'm guessing they do not cut much as they can not physically cut as much. i would assume that the cut gets smaller between division with the HW div being an exception as they have a 60lb weight bracket.

Littler guys have less to cut. A 145lber isn't going to cut 30lbs like the big guys cos they just haven't got that much flesh to lose the weight from.

It also depends on the background.
I mean, some featherweights and bantamweights will cut 5-7% of their bodyweight (which is obviously less in terms of total weight, but has the same impact).
I've fought at 125 in the past, and have cut about 10 pounds to make that weight. I'm not even a wrestler. There are guys I know who wrestle and they're comfortable doing as much or more.
Guys with more eastern backgrounds (which is most 125 pound fighters) usually don't cut alot, but Urijah Faber cuts a good deal and there are a few 135ers who cut a lot of weight.

Actually Ironman Urijah doesn't cut much at all to fight at 145.

Yeah i assumed he cut alot of weight, but awhile back i remember seeing an interview that he said he only walks around at like 153 or something.
Torres is quite lean, but he prob weighs around 145 or more. I mean he's 5 foot 9 and has like a freaky 6 foot 4 reach. So one would figure that length alone would come with some weight.
Also Mike Brown is a huge FW he had a pretty big size advantage on Urijah.

Really, I've just seen him as a huge guy, bigger than some 155 pounders. That's surprising, but I guess it explains why he doesn't compete as a lightweight.

Yea until I heard him mention it in an interview I had never noticed either but after seeing him in the cage with Mike Brown it's clear how small he is.
