Do you think he's telling the truth?

Source: mmaweekly.com

Pride and UFC veteran Vitor Belfort has responded to the Nevada State Athletic Commission's charges that he had anabolic steroids in his system when he fought on Pride's October 21st card in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Belfort, who lost by unanimous decision to Dan Henderson on the card, tested positive for 4-hydroxytestosterone, which is legally defined as an anabolic steroid and is also banned in Major League Baseball and other sports.

Belfort's case is still pending in front of the Nevada State Athletic Commission, and at some point there will be a disciplinary hearing at which Belfort could be fined or suspended.

Here is a transcript of the letter that Belfort sent to the NSAC:

"In regard of the disciplinary complaint against myself about having violated section 467.850 of the Commission Regulations, all I have to say is that I bought a supplement called 'Max Tribostak' at Max Muscle in La Habra, California, which contains 4-Hydroxytestosterone. I had no idea that a supplement bought over the counter at a vitamin store would contain a substance that is illegal in the state of Nevada. This lack of knowledge is costing me a great deal, hurting my image throughout every newspaper in Brazil, which caused me to lose some of my sponsors, and most of all the risk of being suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission. I hope you consider my letter before taking any formal disciplinary actions.

This can be very easily verified, so if Belfort is lying with that excuse, hes just stupid... and i dont think hes that stupid, so i give him the credit for being honest on that one. I dont think the Comission will care tho, its his responsability to check what hes taking... its like saying " its not my fault, its my coach who put steroids in my water"..

If the amount of the steroid in question corresponds with the over the counter supplement he doesn't deserve to be suspended.

why? i dont think theres a number of "allowed" steroids, so how can the nevada commission say its ok? Its not because u can buy it at a store that it makes what he did ok...Unless the product(4-hydroxytestosteronoe whatever) was not written on the box, theres no reason for Belfort not to get at least suspended for a few years. U can buy that stuff on the net btw, so i know for sure that 4-hydroxy whatever products are not illegal in itself, its just illegal in sports.. so the store is definatly allowed to sell it, its belfort's problem.

This steroid garbage has gotten so out of hand. Next thing they will make it against the rules to use aspirin because it gives a competitive edge to those who take it.

vitor is really really religous. And lying is breaking one of the ten commandments. that enough for me plus the fact that he is not a bad person in my opinion even after losses.

4-hydroxytestosterone (4-oht) is also a metabolite of formestane, an aromatose inhibitor used to counter the estrogenic effects of other steroids. I doubt he would use it on its own because its a very weak androgen and would not produce much benefit by itself.
My theory on how it ended up in his blood: he ran a cycle of a stronger steroid before the fight, used formestane to keep the bloat off, gave some time for the blood to become clear of whatever it was he used, but probably forgot that a very small percentage of formestane itself turns into 4-oht, which got him caught.

I myself have used legal supplements that contain the same substance found in his body. There are many legal supplements that can cause a failed drug screen. I myself used legal supplements for bodybuilding and could've easily failed a test if tested. He could be telling the truth....or.....he could be using legal supplements that contain that drug to mask what he really used. Who knows
