Whether or not people want to give any credit to Women's MMA it is a problem when 2 of the high profile fighters have problems making weight. Women have a tendency to retain more water weight than men but either they need to adjust the weight classes or make the fighters' pay more severely for coming in over weight. Santos coming in 7 pounds too heavy is a joke much like when Filho, who tried to fight Casper the Ghost, came in over the same amount against Sonnen in their last WEC fight.
Here are a couple of good takes on the issue:

Yeah but when you're a heavyweight you have a plenty big physique. Look at Akano compared to Cyborg, it was like watching domestic violence.

Yeah, I was really unimpressed with CSAC in regard to that fight. There are enough women in MMA that they could have found Cyborg a quality opponent at her weight. I'm a fan of Akano for life for taking that fight and answering every round. A completely mismatch like that is the stuff of pro-wrestling and I have no desire to see it in MMA.

I agree that it's bull when any fighter misses weight, male or female. But lets not forget, unless I have my facts wrong, Akono didn't have to take that fight when Cyborg came in overweight. She could have gone home with her purse and 1/3 of Cris's, but a true fighter always steps up. And Akono definitely showed she is a true fighter.
Either way I think Gina is going to wipe the floor up with her.

Pretty sick differential if you ask me. The fight was more of a mauling than anything else. Cyborg isn't going to have the luxury of fighting a miniature in her next bout though.

Lol agree with Davisty69 that fight was borderline imoral....akana took a pasting. Even when she was trying to sub cyborg she looked like a little ant crawling up cyborgs arms. I just feel sorry for that cute woman in the audioence that has to fight that tatoed man posing as a female fighter

Akano- after getting a better, and she had all the right in the world to drive the price tag as high as she could, did step for the fight even with the weight disadvantage. My biggest problem with Santos is that there are reports she didn't try that hard to weight because she figured that a it would get resolved and the fight would go on. That's complete BS- she was relying on not having to even attempt to make weight while being sure that the fight would continue regardless.
That's a complete lack of professionalism and shows lack of respect towards her opponent and organization.
Either change the divisions, open up the range of weight that a female fighter can come in or if they come in that overweight don't let them fight or make the penalty even more extreme.

Yeah that's pretty ridiculous that she came over weight, and apparently wasn't even worried about it.
