Dan Henderson...Underrated?

It seems like Dan Henderson gets very little respect. He is hardly mentioned in pound for pound or even in the rankings for his own weight division. MMAWeekly has him ranked as #6 among 185 lbs. fighters. #6 ? He is #1 on my list at 185, however I'm a Dan Henderson fanboy so you have to take that with a grain of salt. I could see him at #2 or as low as #3, but #6? This is the man who just thoroughly dominated a juiced up Vitor Belfort who is also a bigger fighter. Granted you never know what you will get with Vitor, sometimes he's unstoppable, other times he doesn't have his head in the fight. This time around I don't think it was a case of Vitor not bringing his A game however. I think Dan just controlled him throughout the match and didn't allow Vitor to muster any offense. That's what great fighters do, they take their opponent out of their game plan and into their world.

The 5 fighters listed above Dan Henderson are: Matt Linland, Anderson Silva, Paul Filho, Kazuo Misaki, and Rich Franklin. I believe Dan would thoroughly beat up Paul, Kazuo, and Rich. Matt Linland and Anderson Silva would be great, close fights for Dan, but I believe he would prevail there too.

Dan is a great all-around fighter. He is a world-class wrestler, superb with both controlling an opponent in the clinch and the dirty-boxing. Great take-downs, good take-down defense/reversal. He probably won't submit an opponent, but he knows enough, is smart enough, and has been around long enough to avoid submissions quite well(except against the Nogueiras, but those guys are submission wizards). As a striker he is very good. Good technique, defense, combos, and a deadly right hand. My one knock on Dan is that because he is so intelligent he knows when he is ahead in a fight and has a tendency to sometimes coast through the rest of a fight rather than try to finish an opponent.

Yah Dan is definetly underated on those rankings. Most of his loses come to fighters that usually fight at 205 or Heavyweight. I think that he would beat Misaki if they fight a 3rd time. I believe he would also beat Anderson Silva and Rich Franklin. I dont think he could beat Filho though. That guy is just too strong and once hes got you down and has top position, its only a matter of time until your finished. I think Henderson and Lindland could go either way though. My top 3 Middleweight fighters would be Filho then Lindland then Henderson. That sight really does not show very much respect to him in their rankings.

Dan's dropped in the rankings because he lost to Misaki in the 2nd round of the WWGP. In his fight with Misaki at PRIDE 10 he didn't look all that impressive either. He won the decision, but he wasn't the same Dan we had seen in the WWGP the previous year.

Yah and I guess when he beat up Vitor for 3 rounds pretty badly it didnt help his rank because it was a fight at 205.

Dan is def. an awesome fighter, and def. underrated, but who cares, he has his belt and is a Pride Champ, so thats all that matters, but i would love to see him Face Off against Anderson Silva, if its any 185lber it would be Dan to beat him
