Jake Shields to Fight for Interim Strikeforce Middleweight Title

Jake Shields, the former EliteXC welterweight champion, will fight for the interim Strikeforce middleweight title in October. Strikeforce founder and CEO Scott Coker informed FanHouse of the news at Tuesday's Gina Carano-Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos press conference in New York City.
Shields last competed for Strikeforce in June, defeating Robbie Lawler via guillotine submission in a 182-pound catchweight bout.
The current Strikeforce middleweight champion, Cung Le, has yet to defend the title since defeating Frank Shamrock in March 2008. Since then, he has put his fighting career on hold to appear in a number of films, most recently Fighting.
According to Le's IMDB.com page, he currently has one film completed, three in post-production, and two in production. In other words, his schedule seems pretty full at the moment. Coker also mentioned that Le is getting married on August 8.
Coker would not say who Shields will be facing for the title, or exactly when and where this fight would take place.
The Vancouver Sun recently reported that Shields was in preliminary talks to face Matt Lindland or Vitor Belfort for the interim title in August, but "but Showtime TV executives wanted to give him more prominent billing." Belfort is currently scheduled to face Jorge Santiago at "Affliction: Trilogy" on August, so that match-up seems doubtful. However, a fight against the highly-respected Lindland would make a whole lot of sense at the moment.

Lindland was already rumored to be who Jake would fight next and even as a fan of Cung Le, they need to have someone fighting for a MW title. Le hasn't fought in over a year and everytime he talks about coming back it keeps getting pushed back and pushed back. I would have liked to see him actually try and defend his title and I know he is making decent coin doing his movies but I'm starting to wonder if he come back or, if he keeps getting casted in movies, just stay doing that.
Either way Strikeforce had to move forward and get a MW title fight.

Interesting
Well this is an interesting turn of events. I wouldn't be surprised if both Diaz and Shields loose their respective title fights, Shields will go back down and strip Riggs of that belt and Diaz will move up and take the interim belt from Lindland!

I think it serves Strikrforce right thst Cung Le isn't even trying to represent them or his title. Douche bag, he got served bobos and then Frank S. pulls that stupid "no takedown" strategy???
I like the organization as a whole but stop doing this ELITE XC bullshit.

Interim Title
Well Strikeforce is trying to avoid EliteXC type practices with trying to create an Interim title while Le is doing movies!

everything I referred to happened within the last 1 1/2years? Strikeforce has to start letting go of some of the strings before they suffer any of the Kimbo-type fallout. As I said, I like the organization and the fact that they are trying to build on solid fighters. But I hope they learn from this crap and stop trying to go for hype (Cung Le).

The thing is that Cung had never denied to defend and Coker let him have his acting carreer.
The first time his title began coming into question it was put up for grabs for the Shields fight. Shamrock not taking him down was Franks decision. Not the request of Strikeforce as an org.
I can see the point that you're trying to make but I believe that the differences are very drastic when comparing the two.

Correct
Very true, Shamrock said he was going to do no takedowns, which he didn't do anyways!
