Cro Cop coming to UFC?

Heres an article i just read, starting off my Mon. morning at work
Monday, December 04, 2006 - by Al Yu - MMAWeekly.com

A recent article on the Croatian news site Vecernji-list claimed that Pride Open Weight Grand Prix Champion Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic would be offered a contract to fight in the UFC.

Mirko has one more fight left on his Pride contract, so he will be a free agent after his fight on New Year's Eve against a currently unannounced opponent.

According to the supposed contract, as reported by Vecernji-list, Mirko would be offered a $1 million signing bonus in a deal that would secure the Croatian star to the UFC for six fights. Moreover, Mirko would supposedly earn $1.2 million for his first two fights in the UFC, $2 million for the two fights thereafter, and an undisclosed amount for the final two fights on the contract.

The specifics of the contract don't appear to be anything more than speculation, allegedly stemming from an airline passenger who claimed to have looked over the shoulder of a UFC official during a flight.

Cro Cop dismissed the published terms of the contract, as he told Vecernji-list, "I wish it’s that much... that guy must have seen one extra zero. Even boxers do not get that kind of money."

Cro Cop would have no reason to be dishonest by understating how much the UFC is offering him. If anything, for the purposes of negotiations, it's in the best interests of fighters in general for them to overstate--- not understate--- how much money they're being offered, so there's no reason to doubt Cro Cop when he says that Vecernji-list's published contractual terms are not even close to the actual terms.

However, in the same article, Cro Cop did confirm that the UFC has shown interest in him, as he told Vecernji-list, "They are interested in me, but I did not sign anything." Just the fact that the UFC has expressed interest to Cro Cop is significant because it indicates that UFC officials appear to be serious when they say that they will try to sign the best fighters in the world in 2007. Cro Cop is currently the #2 Heavyweight in the MMAWeekly Rankings.

I cannot even imagine if Cro Cop + Aleks coming over to UFC, that would just push UFC over the top, and they know that both of these HeavyWeights = Big PPV payouts

And i am so tired of crappy HW matches in UFC

OH MY ****ING GOD!!!!! If this really happens...........I would shit my pants Crocop would own all. I'd love to see him in the UFC for real. Not much competition for him tho, he's on another level and the UFC has nobody in that weight class worth putting him up against so we would see some brutal knockouts

but i would still prefer Cro Cop and Fedor to remain in Pride, due to better competition that Pride has to offer..

but im all for Tim Losing his UFC belt to a real MMA HW Fighter! so if that takes Crocop coming over then i am all for it

i also forgot to add that, it might actually be better for MMA as a whole here in the U.S if a champion like Mirko Cro Cop came over to the UFC why because, many new comers to this sport, dont think outside the Box, they only know the "American Fighters" Hughes, Rich Franklin, Tim Sylvia, etc.. and think they are the End all, Be all of this great SPORT..

and saddly dont have much respect/knowledge for other great fighters that reside outside of the U.S, with Cro Cop coming over, it literally is impossible not to Ackknowledge a man of this Caliber even if he isn't American and I think UFC is headed to the right path ie. George Saint Pierre (Canadian), Anderson Silva (Brazilian), etc...

It shows the newcomers that there are great and sometimes Better Athletes then whats in the States, and that is what MMA is all about, Evolution!

and plus Cro Cop is one of my favorite fighters and if they can pay this man more, and make his life better, then i am all for it... he trains 350 days a YEAR! he is not cocky/arrogant, he is very involved in Politics, was a member in the Croatian Parliament and still trains the Croatian Police/Anti Terrorist, what MMA fighter is this involved !

Mirko is truely an inspiration

How tall is Crocop? Just wondering if he was tall enough to get his legs high enough to kick Silvia right in his head.

Thumbs up Holy Sh*t is right!!

Man that would be awesome if the UFC was successful at signing these guys! Mirko would add alot of weight to the H.W. class that has a reputation for being under talented. If the UFC is seriously commited to showcasing the top MMA fighters in the world than they are going to have to lure many fighters from Pride. GO GET EM' DANA!!

Mirko Cro Cop, 6'2, 220lbs

Wins 21
By knockout 14
By submission 3
Losses 4
Draws 2

Winner of the hardest match considered in all of MMA, The OWGP, where he beat out Ikuhisa Minowa, Wanderlei Silva, Josh Barnett, and became the
2006 OWGP Champion, post fight interview he stated "if he had not won the tournament it would have been his last night fighting" and that same night he won, it was also his Bday! Cro Cop is def. the real deal

Well, Cro Cop once said that now since he has all the money he'll ever need, he just wants to be the best and have the belt. So if he was speaking the truth, no way would he leave to the UFC.

And besides, I think his contract only needs to be 2-3 fights at most for him to be done with the UFC...

I would LOVE Cro-Cop to come over to the UFC and show the HW's here how its done. As it is the only two UFC HW's I like are AA and Vera.

I dunno if he will come because cr cop has always said he only wants to fight the best in the world and the best fighters are definetly not UFC heavyweights.

I started reading and was believing until it started giving out the amount of money they would pay him, $1 million to sign, $2 million for the first two fights and a couple more million for the next 4 fights is way too much. The UFC would never pay a fighter that much, Dana and the Ferretti Brothers are in the business of making money and spending it. I would like CroCop to fight in the UFC for a year or 4 or 5 fights but then go back to Pride.
