WFA All But Finished - Article Talks Rampage / Liddell Rematch

MMA WEEKLY - Your #1 Source for Daily MMA News, Interviews, Multimedia, and More

As first reported live on MMAWeekly Radio on Wednesday evening, have told MMAWeekly that World Fighting Alliance President and CEO Jeremy Lappen is suing the owners of the WFA for breach of contract. In a lawsuit in the state of California, Lappen alleges that the WFA's owners have not paid him or many of the company's other employees for quite some time.

Sources tell MMAWeekly that many of the WFA's employees have left the company and that the WFA's debt is piling up, with creditors seeking payments and with some vendors from the July 22nd show still waiting for their funds to be delivered.

As mentioned on MMAWeekly Radio, this does not necessarily mean that the WFA is going out of business, but the lack of payments and the loss of employees is certainly an ominous sign for the potential future of the WFA.
The WFA ran a show headlined by Quinton Jackson vs. Matt Lindland at The Forum in Los Angeles, California on July 22nd. Another show was scheduled for December 9th in Las Vegas, Nevada with a main event of Jackson vs. Marvin Eastman, but the Las Vegas show was postponed last month. At this point, it is not known when or if there will be another WFA show.

If the WFA does indeed go out of business, it is believed that Quinton Jackson would become a free agent and would be able to sign with the UFC, Pride, or any other organization of his choice. Based on public statements and the marketability of the fight, a rematch with Chuck Liddell in the UFC would seem to be the most likely next move for Jackson if the WFA does go out of business.

Mixed martial arts legend Bas Rutten, who was one of the main attractions at the WFA's July show, is a coach in the IFL and previously said in an interview with MMAWeekly that his WFA contract allows him to also fight in the IFL if he so chooses. It is not known when Rutten would be legally able to fight for an MMA organization other than the WFA or IFL if he wanted to do so.

The contractual status of Heath Herring is also not currently known, but it is believed that other organizations have already approached the heavyweight fighter.
Many of the other top fighters from the WFA's July show have signed with other MMA organizations, specifically the IFL in the cases of Matt Lindland and Ivan Salaverry.

WOW!

That would be HUGE if Dana could pull off signing Rampage. After Tito, that could be a MONEY-MAKER for the UFC. Big time.

UFC also needs to sign "RAZOR" Rob McCullough. That man would do DAMAGE in the UFC's Lightweight Division. Bring at least one championship to Team Punishment.

Shell out some money Dana.

Yea, I was just thinking about Razor Rob. He's another good sprawl and brawler with muay Thai and kick boxing - he fits the new mold of the UFC champs so he'd do great in his division most likely. I can't remember where, but I also read that he may be signing on to do TUF 5.

Schweet. Can't wait to see if he makes it onto the program. That would be sick. That's one of my boys that's VERY under-rated.

::waits for everyone to jump on the wagon::

He's a chump, fights cans, worthless.

Well guys let's all stop buying WFA pay-per-views and hope and pray they go under so we can see guys like Jackson and Herring and Lindland or even Bas Rutten in the UFC. I heard the UFC was in talks of getting Lindland back for Silva-food, so I'm sure they looked into Rampage and some others while they were there. So we all agree to stop supporting the WFA, yes?

*sarcasm*

or is it?

yea it was...

but seriously, don't buy their PPVs anymore.

He wont go to UFC because right now he's pretty much living off his win over Chuck. Thats what hes most well known for. If he comes back he'll lose more than just the fight.

Yah the Chuck and Rampage rematch would be sick.

I would really like to see Lindland come back and take the belt off of Sylva, but I think him and Dana hate each other so I dunno if it will ever happen.

Yea, he broke some lame sponsorship rule and Dana booted him, but he was also a boring fighter, so who knows? Dana just wanted him out so he made up that lame excuse.

So, I think Linland will be fighting Newton in Feb. in the IFL, but after that who knows? If Silva keeps destroying everyone, Dana may kiss some asss to work a deal. I wanna say doubtful though.
