ah comon, this is the OLDEST discussion in the book!!!
They both have their good and bad.
You really say one is better than the other.

Pride had
better production
better LHW/HW
Better shows
Ring (has its advantages, and disadvantages)

UFC had(at the time)
A better business model
WEll Rounded roster
No freak shows
Better regulations
A cage
History

Also you cant say which one is better, that is present tense.

Welcome to the forum GnP

This has been discussed in depth many times and I dont think I've seen more heated discussions than UFC vs pride battles bc there are many loyal fans on both sides.

But I would have to say the PRIDE shows were way more entertaining. The UFC is way more organized and runs a better promotion in terms of matchups, title contenders and whatnot but PRIDE put together the matches the fans wanted to see. They didnt care about formal rankings as much. In the end I just like watching a good fights so I love them both.

I like the ufc a lot better. The one thing about pride that i could not stand was seeing guys get fed a bunch of cans. Yes, wanderlei silva had an impressive streak of kicking the shit out of people, but it seemed like half of those guys werent worth a damn to begin with. I like all sports that i watch to be competitive. I did like the pride rules better, but yeah, im a much bigger ufc fan.

The advantage of the ring is that many fights in the cage boil down to who can pin a guy up against the cage and throw foot stomps. That does not make for an entertaining fight, by any means.

Also, the ring has 4 90 degree corners, which makes it easier for strikers to stalk down an opponent, and ultimately leads to more stand-up exchanges. The cage innately makes all-out exchanges uncommon, because of the shape. It is essentially a circle and allows people to run around their opponent and never get pinned down.

Honestly, if the ring had 5 ropes instead of 2 (making it also taller), and if they had cross ropes going up and down (to simulate a cage thread) i think that would be a superior setup. you wouldn't have the mindless body hugging of a cage and and you wouldn't have the rope difficulties and fall-outs as in a traditional boxing ring.

i miss Pride, it was something special, but the UFC has proven time and time again that they are the ones that do this sport best. When the fight fixing news dropped in Japan it cut me deep. heh heh. Especially being a long time Sakuraba superfan. that was a sad week, month and year.

i, like the majority of the japanese fight media, will never trust those assclowns from FEG again.

Pride produced some of the most memorable moments in MMA history, but ultimately it was a freak show about %50 of the time. It was also bad for the fighters, allowing steroids and fights to happen within weeks of each other causes short careers and lives.

UFC is better hands down, and always has been. And frankly this is indisputable at this point, argue with that the next time you watch a live Pride event.:confused03:
