I don't know about that. While it's the most likely way Filho would win, he'd have to get him down first. Mousasi seems to get better every time he fights...
I don't know. Filho has looked completely less than impressive this past year or so, and Mousasi has looked like an elite fighter in that time.
I don't doubt that Filho "could" sub Mousasi because he has some great jitz, however I don't think it very likely. I see Mousasi getting the Ko or TKO as more likely.
I agree that filho could sub him pretty quickly and easily if it hit the mat, but that probably wouldnt happen. Mousasi is an intelligent fighter and wouldnt have anything to do with the ground game. It would look like when frank mir beat nog, he would just keep dropping him and letting him get up until he ko'ed him.
Mousasi has a great ground game I think on the ground its a toss up.. both have the skill to do in each other.. Though I think Filho is way outclassed standing.. plus I do not think his heart is in it anymore I hope I am wrong but well he has not done anything to impress me as of late.
Back to victories at Dream, submitting Melvin Manhoef in the first round, Paulo Filho is ready for Alex Shoenauer at Bitetti Combat 4, but already aims tougher challenges overseas. With Dream’s new partnership with Strikeforce, the black belt eyes Gegard Mousasi, who knocked Renato Babalu Sobral out to become the new light heavyweight champion.
“I wanna fight Mousasi and show that with against me is a whole different thing… He doesn’t have my strength, he doesn’t have my level on the ground. He can be a better striker, but he doesn’t have my strength and he’ll go down once and be submitted”, guarantees Fiho, commenting Mousasi’s fight against Sobral. “HE’s well trained, but I don’t think he’s healthy enough to beat me… If he wins, I don’t even want my salary. But I guarantee he’ll be beaten more than he was against (Akihiro) Gono”, said the former WEC middleweight champion.
In the exclusive interview, that you check tomorrow here at TATAME.com, the black belt remembered that he and Mousasi were in the same Pride tournament, but Mousasi was submitted got out when he was submitted by Gono, commented the training for Bitetti Combat, Dream’s partnership with Strikeforce and more.
Filho doesn't impress me at all...he should have fucked Chael S. quickly in either of their fights but looked sloppy and beaten. Dude was hittin the crack rock pretty hard "or so the story goes" and I don't see how you come back from that.
I also think this is the run of the mill, give me a fight with the champ and I'll own him PR bullshit some fighters choose.
Love to see Gegard f someone else up. Even Filho's tyson tattoo would get a bruising.
Filho has damn good JJ but no good standup. He takes a lot of shots but when he gets it on the ground the guy is usually finished and like never gets it back to the feet. I am talking good Filho here, not drug addict overweight bum Filho. He looked good in his last fight but I dont think he could get it to the ground in this one. Mousassi is too good.
Filho would say that...Hes a cocky idiot. he used to be good but hes looked like shit lately and at times reallly bad. Moussasi would destroy him, Filho would submit him about as easily as Babalu did
Filho easliy has one of the top five ground games in mma. I would love to see him fight damian maia. Once again, filho "could" submit damn near anyone on the planet. Is that likely to happen? Not really.
