Tired of waiting, Shields just wants to fight

Former EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields says there’s no delay on his end in facing Jason “Mayhem” Miller in Strikeforce.
“If they hand me the bout agreement today, I’ll sign it,” Shields told MMAWeekly.com.
Miller last month announced that he’d be facing the Top 10 welterweight in the near future, though his manager, Ryan Parsons, told MMAWeekly.com the timing of the bout was uncertain. Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker said his promotion was working on major events for October and December and entertained the possibility of an interim middleweight title fight for Miller and Shields.
Miller backed off his announcement this week despite a desire to fight Shields, telling MMAJunkie.com that “something was wrong” and he had not received a bout agreement.
Shields on Wednesday night said the delays are on Miller’s end.
“People at Strikeforce told me Miller needed more time, so as far as what’s going on, I don’t know,” he said. “Maybe he needed more time and was trying to pass it on.”
Shields appeared on the first season of Miller’s hit MTV show, “Bully Beatdown,” and is expected to make an appearance on the second season. Shields’ manager/father, Jack Shields, said the two are friends, though a fight between the two would be “all business.”
Parsons on Thursday told MMAWeekly.com that Miller had spoken too soon and there “wasn’t any drama” with the delay.
“Strikeforce is trying to find the right time for the bout,” he said.
Jake Shields said he didn’t want to make it personal with Miller, but was frustrated with the situation.
“I want to fight now,” he continued. “I don’t want to be wasting time. I’m training for a certain type of fight, and I don’t want it to get pushed back. But I guess it happens, and I’ll deal with it.”
Dealing with it, Shields added, may include asking for a different opponent in October.
“If Strikeforce offers me another opponent, I’ll definitely take another opponent,” he said. “I’d like to fight Miller, but I’ll fight someone else. I’d rather fight now.”
Strikeforce officials were not available for comment on the delay at the time of this writing.

I'm a fan of shields, also of Mayhem. I want to see this fight.
Strikeforce really needs to start lining up title defenses for its champions. Otherwise, the belts will become worth even less than they already are.

According to his Twitter account, Mayhem definitely looks forward to fighting Jacare but isn't avoiding Shields.

Attn Jacare: you RAN from me in Dream and made me CHASE you to Strikeforce for less money. When we meet, you'll regret it.

Attn everyone. I have never ducked anyone. Look at my record- I have an irrational lack of fear, or concern about losing.

This is what happens with smaller orgs. You end up fighting lesser opponents or waiting around longer than you should for a quality fight. Strikeforce has really got to work harder at getting title defenses set up.
I am very interested in this fight if it happens.

Interesting Fight
Yeah this is an interesting fight and it will happen! You have submission ace Shields and brawler Miller! Talk about exciting!

I really want Sheilds to put his money where is mouth is and sign in the UFC. I have no idea what kind of contract he has with Strikeforce, but it's about time for him to get some stability.
I think Sheilds is very good, but I personally don't think he is great. If he ever does make the jump, I see him getting immediately derailed by Fitch, Koscheck, or even Dan Hardy. No way is he competing with GSP or Alves, despite his claims.

shields still has 2 fights left with strikeforce. he's not avoiding signing with UFC. and if he wins the interim belt and then beats Le for the belt (which i think he will), then why not stay in strikeforce and defend his belt in a weightclass that is above the one he's usually fighting in?

Above Weightclass
Not to mention if Shields looses the belt he can drop down to welterweight if his stablemate Diaz doesn't have the belt at the time and take it from whoever has it!

Jake Shields is one of my favorite fighters, but good god he has terrible stand up. I think he would be one of the top p4p guys in the world if he would just develop that part of his game to a decent level. Either way, i think he is gonna beat whoever they put in front of him next.

Stand-Up
Yeah that is an area where Shields needs to improve, but when he does he is going to be an even better fighter!
