The partial fight card for the fifth edition of the up-and-coming Brazilian MMA promotion, Bitetti Combat, was recently announced by Bitetti Combat manager and owner Amaury Bitetti.
Bitetti Combat 5 takes place Dec. 12 in Sao Paulo, Brazil
The card is just as stacked as previous editions of Bitetti Combat, featuring MMA notables such as Pedro Rizzo, Murilo "Ninja" Rua and Jeff Monson, --who all fought at Bitetti Combat 4-- along with Valentin Overeem, Travis Wiuff and Tommy Speer.
The event is headlined by a heavyweight bout between former UFC heavyweight title challenger Pedro Rizzo and Pride and Rings veteran Valentin Overeem. Rizzo is looking to pick up his second straight win, with his previous win coming over Jeff Monson at Bitetti Combat 4 in September. Overeem, the older brother of Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, is looking to end a two-fight skid.
In addition, Pride and EliteXC veteran Murilo "Ninja" Rua takes on M-1 Challenge veteran Jason Jones. Rua is coming off a 39-second knockout win over Alex Stiebling, which also took place at Bitetti Combat 4. Jones is currently riding a three-fight winning streak, with his most recent victory coming over Sebastian Olchawa at a Beast of the East event on Nov. 14.
Other notable bouts featured on the card include former top UFC heavyweight contender Jeff Monson as he takes on WEC veteran Glover Teixeira and longtime MMA veteran Travis Wiuff will be going for his fourth straight win when he faces Brazilian Fabio Maldonado in a heavyweight tilt.
Also, TUF 6 runner-up Tommy Speer takes on M-1 veteran Eduardo Pamplona. Since being released from the UFC following a loss against Anthony Johnson at UFN 13 in April 2008, Speer has gone 4-1 in five fights, most recently defeating Travis Perzynski in October. Pamplona is riding an impressive seven fight winning streak, with his most recent coming against Do Hyung Kim at M-1 Challenger 17 in July.
Im confused Monson is booked in two fights on two diffrent continents for dec 12. WTF, Interested to see what Monson looks like though since he recently said he was planning on dropping to LHW after his Dec 12 fight against Travis Fulton.
:confused02: Hell if I know which one he ends up doing, could be the one in Alabama since he's the headliner or the Bitetti show because he's done it before I guess.
Is Monson kidding? A 240lbs cut to 205 is just plainly unhealthy! The man is insane!
