Strikeforce Signs K.J. Noons

Quote:
Roster-building mode is in full swing as Strikeforce today officially announced the signing of former EliteXC lightweight champion and professional boxer K.J. Noons (6-1).

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

No promotional debut date has been set for Noons, who hasn't competed in MMA since a 48-second TKO of Yves Edwards in a June 2008 EliteXC title defense.

Noons, a former Superbrawl and ICON Sport fighter, is perhaps best known for his upset of Nick Diaz in November 2007. At "EliteXC: Renegade" and in a bout for the organization's first-ever lightweight title, Noons battered the UFC veteran and opened enough facial cuts that a ringside physician halted the bout after the first round.

However, due to stalled contract negotiations and the organization's eventual collapse, a rematch never happened. With Diaz under contract to Strikeforce, a rematch is possible (though Diaz has been competing in a heavier weight class recently).

During his layoff, Noons posted a 4-1 boxing record to push his overall record to 12-2. He also owns a 13-1 pro kickboxing record.

"I'm super excited to be a part of Strikeforce, and I'm looking forward to putting on great fights," Noons stated. "I've always wanted to come back, but I wanted to box for a little while in order to polish my boxing skills. "Now, I'm ready to jump back into the picture in MMA."

Earlier this year, Noons told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) that signing with Strikeforce was a possibility.

"I think Strikeforce is a great organization," he said in March. "(Strikeforce founder and CEO) Scott Coker is a great guy. I used to fight for him when I was 16 (years old), when he first started doing Strikeforce. I used to fight on his kickboxing cards, so I have a great relationship with him."

Personally I'm not a K.J. fan, but he is a compeditor, and an excellent addition to the LW roster.

Thoughts....

Who?

Haha, j/k. I don't like KJ Noons, so hopefully he gets worked in all his fights from this day forward.

I can't stand him either...he's got heavy hands though and I'd like to see how he fairs against Thompson, Melendez and the rest of the LW division.

I think he needs a warm up fight against a maybe a guy like, Gurgel, Huen, or Ishida....

I like the guy, but I'm biased because I've train BJJ with him. His boxing skills may not be enough to make him big money in boxing. In MMA I think his boxing skills combined with his strong MMA fundamentals give him a huge future if he stays focused on MMA and takes on increasingly difficult challenges. On top of having heavy hands, he has amazing head movement, footwork, and accuracy.

I don't think they should dump him right into the deep end. Honestly, I'd love to see a Crazyhorse rematch. Everyone talks about that loss like he was totally dominated when he just got caught. He destroys Crazyhorse 9+/10.

I agree. Especically given the difference in cardio and technical boxing.

Cool Rematch

Noons and Diaz need to fight in a rematch at a catchweight or at welterweight!

Lightbulb Rematch

Yeah but once it happens, they should return to their respective weightclasses from now on.

Noons vs Billy Evangelista would be a great fight.

Cool Billy Evangelista

Maybe that should be Noons warm-up match to work off his ring rust. Then they can work the Diaz rematch.
