Anyone here bet on MMA? I mean we all use the vbookie here and it's a great way to practice. Anyone good with real money? What was your biggest win your biggest loss? Any tips and or advice for betting?

I am thinking of using real money soon because I think im getting better. I have 11k out on bets right now. What is the best site to use for MMA most likley just UFC betting for now?

I have learned from vbookie to not chase the upset and to never let emotion of favorite or most hated fighters effect your bet. I lost 21k betting on Mir.

Betting with your heart is indeed very dangerous. I would keep practicing here with Vbookie, but I have a few tips that might help.

Pay very good attention to odds from many different sites. It's very important to shop around for the best odds. If there's a fighter that you are VERY confident in winning, then don't place a bet with odds like -600 on them. Only bet on them if the odds are good. Also, try not to make a habit out of betting on underdogs just because of the odds. Small bets are ok, but not always smart. Also, parlays can help makes loads of cash if you play them smartly, but can ruin you if one fighter in the parlay loses. I can't help with reliable sites, but I do know that I've been told MANY times NOT to use Bodog. I know people who have not been paid. So beware.

And I am no expert by any means, but I'll help as much as I can. :)

Just out of curiosity, what individual fights did you win on? What sites? And what were the odds? Because I'm considering starting an account somewhere as well. I was pretty confident in Dunham winning and I'm upset that I didn't bet on him. Now I have two nice underdogs that I'm fairly confident in and I would like to bet on them.

What do you guys think of placing a bet on Serra/Trigg? I honestly think that Serra can take this fight easy.

What do you guys think?

Matt Serra -135
Frank Trigg +105

That's just silly. Don't be scared of flash KO's. Develop a smart betting strategy and stick to it. There is a good opportunity to make some coin with mma betting as it's still moving out of "niche" territory at the sportsbooks and some lines present good value as it seems oddsmakers are still getting up to speed with setting mma lines, so to speak.

But to the OP, my sportsbook (betjamaica) doesn't have great mma options, and only posts lines the day of the fights and doesn't have parlays. My last big play on there was laying money on Mir at -190 over Kongo. I saw great value in that pick and it played out quite well.

I've read great things about 5dimes for mma, so I am looking at getting an account up with them, as I'd like to make some plays for this weekends SF event. (The Nick Diaz line quickly moved from the -215 it opened with and is sitting at -255 at the moment; I was salivating at -215)

BOL to you.

Well just after I warned everyone about Bodog, I did more research. Turns out Bodog is the highest rated site out there. Apparently, Betus is not recommended though.

Anyway, if you're interested, try looking into Bodog a little further and see what you think. They apparently have a good signup bonus and stuff. Guess I shoulda done more research before posting the other comment. :/

Bodog was a great site, but good luck getting $ into the site now if you live in the US. I was on the phone with customer service for over an hour, bought prepaid gift cards, and couldn't deposit.

I use Sportsbook now. I'm not thrilled with their lines, but it's the best site I could find that seems somewhat reputable.

Except its poker site. That keeps screwing me like I'm Tito's girlfriend.

Im Canadian and I have one of those pre payed credit card where you put money on it at money mart or whatever. I hope I don't have any troubles.

I haven't signed up I might later tonight I want to throw some money on Matt Serra. Yes I know both are out of their primes but I feel Matt Serra is alot more relevent then Frank Trig at this point.

Anyways about the minumum of $20 on an account. Im fine with that but is there a minimum for betting on fights? Like if I wanted to could I put $5 on Mark Coleman?

I'm still weighing bodog vs 5dimes... I've read that 5dimes has better props and parlay options.

Regarding minimum bets, you'll probably be looking at around $2.00, guessing from my past experiences.

If you get signed up this week, lay a couple bucks on Nick Diaz this Saturday ;) That line is gonna be damn near -300 pretty soon. It opened up at -210.

Just saw Lashley is now posted at -900! Woah.

I just signed up for Bodog but im going to have to wait to make some bets I don't have any money on my credit card. Il have to deposit some tomorow or in the next few days I looked into it and I don't think I will have a problem it say's it excepts pre paid credit cards.

As for bets on Strikeforce I will not bet against Maruis Zaromskis!!! HAHA Wes Sims is Lashleys biggest test at this point imo but even at +550 I don't think it's worth it haha.

Im kinda looking at Hershal Walker/Greg Nagy. Nagy is +250 and he is fighting someone who has never fought might be worth it.

Also Robbie Lawler is +160 but that's kinda sketchy.

Well I just joined Bodog put some money on and placed some beats on Strikeforce Miami. Not really the smartest bets but whatever I spent a total of like 6 bucks. I lost 15 playin blackjack in 2 minutes.

I put $3 on Robbie Lawlar
I put $1 on Wes Sims (can win $6)
$2 on Maruis Zaromskis

Just messin around with that when UFC 109 comes closer im gonna place some bigger bets. Im gonna try to stay away from putting large amounts on Strikeforce though UFC is my specialty.

Lashly would have to pick sims up and slam him on his own head for him to lose....

He could have one arm and still take it....

but its only a 1$ LOL i would laugh hearing you cheer for Sims for your 1$ bet

#25 ·
Yeah I agree but to throw $1 to win $6 why not right? You never know this is MMA.

Oh and I tried to buy a lifetime membership on this site so I could get a cool sig and everything but it won't except my credit card!! I have to sign up for paypal and I can't complete the payment because my card has no billing adress. Oh well I tried to help this site out..whatever.

#27 ·
Ya risking 20 for 3 is kinda sketchy but it's gonna be pretty hard to lose. 20 for $5.95 is a good bet though.

I think im probobly gonna go with my gut instinct and put about $10 on Matt Serra. Do you think I should place it now or wait till the event get's closer? Does it matter? Or is there no way to tell how it's gonna go?

#28 ·
It hast to matter because it told me my winnings on the Odds that were there...

If the Odds change, what it offered shouldn't go down..... Right?....

Yeah i dont see any of those guys coming close to losing.

But im not 100% on if it matters, all i know is that it showed me my winning it shouldn't get smaller

#30 ·
Well by Bodog if you bet $20 on Lashley you will only win $1.67 he is -1200 not a very good bet.

If you bet $20 on Sims you could win $160 lmao. Might as well buy a lotto ticket though.

Oh don't worry about it man im new to it myself this is my first time ever using real money. Im not exactly the best with this ethier but ill sorta explain.

So ill give an example

UFC 110

Wanderlei Silva -155
Michael Bisping +125

So in this fight Wandy is favored to win that why he is in the minus. Bisping is in the plus because he is the underdog.

So in this case if you bet $10 on ethier or you would get. If you bet on wandy and he won you would get $6.45 profit (for a $16.45 total with your bet) and if you bet on Bisping you could win $12.50 (for a total of 22.50)

From what I understand just even would just be 0? Then I think? So if it was 0 (not sure if that's possible) you would double your money if you bet. If you bet $10 you would win $10 and get $20 back ($10 you bet + $10 you won)

So ya im new to all this too I would reccomend using the Vbookie right here on MMAF it's a great way to practice.

Ya I put $1 on Sims for the hell of it. Oh and a wod of advice to anyone using Bodog stay away from roulette that games bulshit I just lost $40. That was sopposed to be my MMA betting money but now it's gone I hope Robbie Lawler wins or I gotta put more money in.

You have to play super conservatively on the casino games / poker games on any of these sites.

I've known people to win big [$100k], but they are few and far between. These sites exist to make money, not to lose it.

Also, I've rewatched some Sims fights. God, I forgot how much he sucks. Not worth the $5 bet, but if I were on Bodog, I'd throw a George on it.

*Edit: Uhm... so Sportsbook let me place a $1 bet. I've tried several times in the past, and never to any luck. I think it is only major sports leagues where the minium bet is $5

#37 ·
Yeah a $1 bet is worth it for what it is I mean Sims is talls has been around the block just recently got lot's of training in on TUF. Lashley is under presure got lot's on his plate with MMA/TNA who knows.

Lashley will win but $1 is good fun. I hope Sims wins!! lol.
