British MMA fighter wins nations biggest reality TV show

Earlier tonight Alex Reid won the UK Celebrity Big Brother, widely considered as one of the biggest and most popular reality TV shows in the country. The final usually pulls in several million viewers.

Reid is most famous in the UK for dating glamour model Katie 'Jordan' Price. He was initially very disliked by the UK public for dating her, as she isn't the most popular person in the media over here, though turned this around on the show by coming across as a genuinely nice guy.

Whilst on the show he was training every day for an upcoming fight and put MMA across in a good light. He will likely have gotten a lot of people interested in the sport who wouldn't usually have bothered with it.

Even if he isn't the best fighter himself, there is lots of buzz in the UK press of the UFC signing him up to fight for them (he actually appeared on the try outs for TUF 9, losing to Dean Amasinger of all people...so he can't be the best fighter!). Though I reckon any publicity for the sport that isn't controversial is good and will only help it grow in the UK

I didn't watch it but my wee sister did and said he came across as a really decent bloke so props to him for winning since he gets alot of undeserved stick from the press over here.

But that being said, the UFC really shouldnt sign him up. When you are releasing people like Rake Rosholt signing some one 8-8-2 shouldn't be happening since he just isn't good enough.

His last MMA fight was in 2007, and he's on a 6 fight losing streak and hasn't won in 7. Any talks of him being signed for the UFC are a pretty laughable, though you never know, he could make an appearance at the next UK UFC event, if he wins his next fight anyway. He's been fighting K-1 since 2007, and from what I've read is doing very well, and is actually a K-1 Champion of some kind. Think his next fight is an MMA bout though, against some bloke called Tom Watson, who's got a 10-3 record and is apparently the Welterweight champion of the organisation he competes in. Alex will be featured in a documentary following his build up to the fight on Bravo in the UK, and that channel will show the fight too.

I have to say though, I do like the bloke. I don't normally watch Big Brother, but actually watched a few episodes this series, and Alex did come across as a quality bloke. I thought he was an arrogant twat from seeing him on TUF, with all his shit talking during the fight and stuff, but in BB he was a genuinely nice guy. I'm looking forward to seeing his next fight.

I'm fairly sure that info in inaccurate, in 2007 he wasn't dating Katie Price however their are videos of him fighting where after winning Katie Price comes into the Octagon.... for some reason Wikipedia/Sherdog isn't updated with his latest info(maybe the promotion he fights in are small time?), according to himself in Big Brother he acknowledged his 6 fight losing streak but insisted he is currently on a 3 fight winning streak - no idea how true that is.

That was a K-1 fight, source: my little sister who watches Katie's programme on ITV (trust me), she said they had boxing gloves on and it didn't go to the ground so I'm assuming so.

His last MMA fight was against Matt Ewin in 2007. From what I've read, his fights since then have been K-1 fights. May be wrong, just what I've read somewhere.

It's some weird K-1 rules organisation. Don't know the name. He's not a great fighter by any means. He came across well on the show from what I saw.

He's more famous for dating a glamour model and being on Big Brother than being a MMA fighter though.

He fought for Ultimate Challenge UK in September 2009 beating Jack Mason under K-1 rules. Thats the event in which Katie Price got into the cage after.
