Backyard Boxing

Up were i live, some boys are holding a huge ass backyard boxing match in a few days. See, ive never lost a fight....but i havent really boxed before, with the gloves and ****. Now usually i wouldnt be worried, but the dude im fighting is 6'6 or 6'7. I'm 6'0, how do i come about beating someone with GIANT reach like that in a boxing match? Can anyone give me some tips?

You deff want to stay close to him. Work some overhand punches and hopefully they will connect for ya. But dont get seperated from him cause thats where his reach will help him. It always sucks fighting a taller figther but take your time and pick your shots wisely and drop this giant. Good Luck man

welcome to my world
I'm 5'7'' so everyone I spar with has a longer reach than me. I agree that you have to fight inside your opponents reach, his shots will be less powerful when your inside. It will feel dumb at first especially if you are used to punishing people from the outside but you will get used to it. Don't be afraid to take some shots inside there(you will get hit I guarantee it) just stay cool. This is how I usually approach a fight with someone a lot taller then me, I will come in working my jab, though its not connecting its helping me feel out his reach compared to mine. If he refuses to initiate an offensive attack I will jab punch combo to get his hands up, then move inside work his body then on my way out I will try to set up an uppercut/left hook. This doesn't make for an instant knockout kind of fight but instead if you can move in and out and effectively land strikes on your opponent he will get frustrated and make mistakes that YOU NEED TO CAPOTOLIZE ON! Watch for him to start dropping his hands more, or throwing wild punches, or watch for a lazy jab. If you catch him doing any of those things it is time to make him pay!
Good luck and I hope this helps

Are you a southpaw? Is he a southpaw? That makes a big difference. My advice is assuming that both fighters are left-leg leading (not southpaw). The shorter fighter must use angles and counter-punches to be effective.

Ex. If the guy throws a left jab, you move in and to your left countering with a left hook or jab to the chin or temple. Of course his right side ribs are unprotected so go for a kidney punch. This takes a lot of practice so start working with a friend.

Remember if you have good hip rotation and footwork, you can actually have an advantage. Be careful!

Bring a bat!
No really set them up wit the jab dont slug or punch wildly Body shots take the speed out of speed fighters. use straight and acurit punches most of the time only use hooks to finish.
