Gomi Coming To The UFC

The Japanese media has broadcast that Pride Lightweight Champion Takanori Gomi is being sent to the UFC to storm their Lightweight division.

Gomi is scheduled to fight at Pride 33: The Second Coming in Las Vegas, then will make his way to the UFC to try and avenge his loss to BJ Penn, then if all goes to plan take UFC Lightweight Champion, Sean Sherk’s title.

Unlike Mirko "Cro Cop" Filipovic’s defection, this is apparently being done with Pride parent company’s backing who are reported to be Gomi’s booking agent for this deal.

There are several ways that one could take this news.

A: You can take it at face value.

B: It is another crushing defection of a Pride fighter to the ever dominant UFC, and Pride are putting their best spin on it.

C: It could be another trick from Pride to help them get their top fighter known in the USA (a-la the Chuck Liddell vs Wanderlei Silva stare down at UFC 61: Bitter Rivals). Although Dana White it is unlikely to get burned in the same way twice.

D: Are the UFC and Pride actually pulling the wool over everyone’s eyes with the bitter rivalry thing and actually working together on some level. And in fact we will be seeing more of these cross-over Pride vs UFC fights?

can i see the link and is it a good source this is my biggest dream come true my favorite fighter can prove that he is #1 lightweight without question sherk and bj penn better watch themselves the fireball kid is coming

btw this is most likely a move by pride to showcase a great fighter (kinda like when chuck went to pride)there is no way gomi would prefer ufc he loves pride and probably prefers the japanese crowds and pride would'nt let go of a champion

probably the 4th thread about this. Gomi already said that himself a while ago, that he would like to represent pride in America.

According to Dave Meltzer, Takanori Gomi is not going to the UFC any time soon:

--Not that this will put an end to rumors and speculation, but there is absolutely nothing to the stories of Takanori Gomi fighting in UFC this year--unless UFC buys Pride or Gomi's contract is up and he leaves Pride. And there is nothing up with the latter.
