I suppose it could just be a way for him to match people up for sparing or what not if he had a bad memory or had trouble with names it could help him match up people equally skill wise.

Belts seem to be used by some international kickboxing associations, such as WAKO and WKA.

Though I do think it is a European thing to grade in Kickboxing, after browsing the web for a bit it is virtually unheard of in the states but almost every European gym I could find used them. Something I actually didn't realise.

lol... If you are going to a Muay Thai gym and they have belts I would find another gym.

And for belt colors I have a red TKD belt but would never think about flaunting it in the MMA world. Some day maybe after I am too old to fight I will finish getting my black belt but between stupid forms, 1 steps, point sparring and other crap involved in TKD when I am training to fight it's pretty pointless. That is all my opinion though.

The only belt I would like to work on getting and would use as "MMA Credentials" would be Gracie BJJ. I really need to start going to Gracie Barra Seattle...

I'm of the opinion that a grappling crudential is only a tool that can be used in MMA, so it doesn't make a difference!

Yeah cause a kickboxing gym shouldn't have belts unless its a specific discipline with belts and the last time I checked, western kickboxing didn't have belt!
