im just curious. Im kinda money tight right now but hopefully il be able to save up some money to go. I live in San Jose so its likely il be attending. If i do go anyone have any ideas of something i should try?? Whats the best way to talk to the fighters during one of these events?
Wish I could go to this one you're lucky.
The beer is always expensive if you're gonna be drinking you're gonna be dropping a pretty penny there.
As far as talking to the fighters... keep an eye out at Strikeforce events.. they're everywhere.
When I went to STRIKEFORCE Los Angeles, I bumped into Gilbert Melendez by the exit, he was posted against the wall like a fly and people were walking right by him. I almost did as well lucky I turned to look back and caught a glance of him right beside me as I was going to the consession stand... all I did was smile and say "El Nino".. and we had a pretty cool talk, he was comfortable to stand there and shoot the breeze as long as I wanted....
When I was in the lobby 3 guys walked by me when I was waiting in line for beer and I used the same approach.... Shane Del Rosario, Tyron Woodley, and Frank Shamrock.... I used the same approach. Just say their name loud enough and they will look right at you. Than just chop it up with them.. Frank was the only one in a hurry but even he talked for a minute or two.
The great thing about being a hardcore fan is that you can spot them while others will let them walk by. Woodley, Del Rosario and Melendez literally knew how to lose themselves in the lobby around hundreds of people... I met those three during the Prangley/Kennedy fight.... so you might want to pick a time when a fight that you're not interested in is going on because they know that most fans will be glued to their seats during the matches... Either way that is the second best time.
But the absolute best time is after the event in the lobby and out front... when everything was over we literally hung out in the front and shot the breeze with the fighters for hours..... Woodley again... Jens Pulver, Melendez, Herb Dean was even out there... I talked with Fabricio Werdum via translator, he just kept smiling but his english was pretty bad. Dan Henderson too.
Josh Barnett was a prick and wouldn't talk to anybody... But Steve Quadros talks to you like he commentates fights, dude is a trip and he likes talking about PRIDE days and will shoot dialogue with you for as long as you want...
They all will take pictures just hit them up.
Some of them will be drunk so it's even funnier.
You're probably not going to meet any fighters on that card or their cornermen that night. They're gonna be on their own missions.
Eddie Bravo, Jens, Gilbert, Werdum, and Del Rosario are cooler than hell and aren't in a hurry to do do anything but hang out..
Have fun, those events are a blast.
