Who's the most dominant?

Who's the most dominant player in their respective sport right now? Tiger Woods for golf. Roger Federer for Tennis. Fedor Emelianenko for MMA. Each of these 3 guys is head and shoulders above the competition and they have dominated their respective sport for years. They are undoubtedly the best of their respective generation and possibly the greatest ever.

Tiger Woods - 12 Major tournament wins. 8 time PGA player of the year. Currently on a 6 tournament winning streak pending the outcome today. He has been dominant the longest of the 3 men on this list. Tiger has been the man for a solid 8 years if not longer. When he went like 5 majors or so without winning one, people were wondering what's wrong with him? How absurd is that?

Roger Federer - 10 Major tournament wins. Won 3 out of 4 Major tournaments in a year twice. Has been the world #1 for well over 3 years. Since his 2003 Wimbledon win Roger has been on an absolute tear. He just won the Australian Open without dropping a single set. He is currently on a career high 36 match winning streak.

Fedor Emelianenko - Pride Heavyweight Champion for damn near 4 years. Undefeated in Pride and only has 1 (really bogus) loss in his entire MMA career. Has faced all the greats in Pride except Josh Barnett and beat them all. Fedor is as close to unbeatable in a combat sport as I have ever seen.

My vote goes to Roger Federer. He hasn't been dominant as long as Tiger has, but the past 3 1/2 years or so Roger has just made a mockery of the entire men's tennis circuit. He is so much better than everybody else that it's just not fair. Fedor has straight up embarrassed world class opponents in their own element, Tiger has gone on ridiculous stretches where he's winning 4, 5, 6 tournaments in a row, but neither of these matches the level of domination Roger Federer is exhibiting right now in his sport. In the last 3 years Roger's match record is: 2004: 74-6; 2005: 81-4; 2006: 92-5. That's just unbelievable. He is pretty much expected to win every tournament he enters except the French where he reached the final last year.

I actually talked to some friends about the same thing...Lance Armstrong is another guy we mentioned, but my vote still goes to Roger. It s insane how he dominates with such ease...

not to take anything away from emelianenko, but i dont think he should be on that list. yes he beats everyone, but when i watch him fight i dont immediatly think he's miles above his opponents. often his opponent is doing better in the fight until fedor gets a sub locked in or something of that nature, its not constant total domination in a fight. like i say i dont wanna take anything away from him because he truly is great, and a win is a win no matter how you slice it......he's just not THAT great. know what i mean? prolly not.....

I dont get it...Fedor is in a combat sport, not playing tennis or golf. In MMA, being dominant is much different than being dominnant in tennis. Roger has to have a bad day and play badly for two hours and still pull off the win. Fedor has to be careful, because one lucky shot lands, he is out.
Also, Roger and Tiger both lost in the last few years, whereas Fedor is undefeated.
I voted Roger but Fedor should definitely be on that list.

kind of crazy cause me and some friends were discussing the dominant people in every sport. our list was similar but we included other major sports, i.e. jordan, gretsky...

but i think definitely the vote has to go to federrer. roger is only 25 and he's already on the verge of breaking pete sampras' record for most grand slam titles. he's gonna have 20 or so by the time he's done. its just unreal. i think tiger has to be high on the list.

fedor deserves consideration but wont get as many votes simply because mma is not a sport covered on news outlets, espn, etc.

speaking of which...espn is gonna start covering mma. about damn time.

Don't lie, you've only seen his latest fight with Hunt, haven't you?

If not, then please give examples of your outrageous claims please.

Yeah, I thought about that, but I only wanted to include current dominant athletes and in individual sports not athletes in team sports. I guess i could have added Ricky Carmichael for Motocross. He's about to retire from motorcycle racing and move on to NASCAR, but he's been overwhelmingly dominant over the last 5 or 6 years. My vote would still go to Federer, but a tip of the hat to Ricky.

the main reason fedor shouldn't be on the list is simply b/c in the MMA it is divided into weight classes. He only has X number of fighters then he can actually go up against. There may be more talented fighters in other divisions but since competition is more elite it prevents you from being on the top forever. its like if a super talented boxing heavyweight came along he might go 80-0 b/c everyone stinks in heavyweight boxing, not saying everyone stinks in heavyweight MMA but its divided up by weight-class so he is eliminated from even the though.

A guy like tiger has to beat any and every professional golfer in the world, but his win streak is embellished a little b/c he has lost tournaments inbetween they just weren't "PGA sactioned" but were still popular tournaments

Roger Federer just turned 25 recently and simply dominates the court, watching the Aussie open last night i thought his opponent had a chance and he actually did but feder just took it up a notch and simply walked threw him. Hands down ROger
