He trains at AKA with the guy i deem to be the best HW in the world. Thats gotta help tons. His wrestling is already top notch, he needs to add striking and transitions to his game.

Is there any better HW to learn that from than Cain?? A guy from a wrestling background himself. Good trade off right now, Cormier brings in olympic calibre wrestlers for Cain, Cain helps Cormier on his standup and everything non wrestling related in MMA.

Look for Cormier to do some big things in the future.

Also look for him in the UFC at some point.
Training his striking with the other guys like Josh Thompson, Mike Swick and Kyle at AKA can't hurt either...

IDK about seeing him in the UFC for a while.. he's got a gauntlet to run as it is right now and if SF pays him and gives him that open contract we may not see him leave alot of fighters really like that open option....

true, altho i dont think he is ready for the top HWs in SF and the HW roster isnt that big, how slow can they bring him up??

I worry abit about his size, he didnt wrestle at HW most of his life and really isnt a true HW.

Either way, the guy is finally putting in work to MMA fulltime and its about time, he has a fire about him and a good team.

I would like to see Cormier vs Konrad personally. I think Cormier takes it.

If he could drop down to LHW he'd be interesting... especially against guys like Mo, and Britt who are both powerful wrestlers in their own respect..

I see Cormier putting on a clinic with them though... hopefully he'll be able to improve his striking though.. you can be a great wrestler but if you don't have a complete game you'll hit a wall eventually..

definitely, which is why i stress the importance of him training MMA full time and being at that camp.

A camp world reknowned for taking wrestlers and making them good strikers aswell.

Also like i said :P having a guy like Cain around is paramount. He could easily throw around Fitch, Kos, Thompson etc and perhaps feel bored.

He isnt throwing around Cain. Infact from all accounts ive heard, he is getting schooled by Cain, regularly.

AKA is very famous for sparring sessions, 3 rounders, 5 rounders and these guys go pretty damn hard, they spar more than most camps, maybe the most.

Dude, the guy is a HW. You've been watching too many LHW or below fights. HW is for guys who are too lazy to cut weight (not really, but lol).

Look at guys like Fedor, he's ALWAYS had a bit of a belly, yet he's ALWAYS shown great cardio.

I think people have simply seen too many steroid pumped athlete/models and have forgotten that most of the guys who used to be the "real athletes" looked more like Cormier than Alistair Overeem.

Having a small amount of body fat actually assists in making muscle mass easier to maintain, as your body during training will have fat to burn rather than little fat and mostly muscle mass. Its also why you see most power lifters with a bit of fat simply because it actually helps more than it hurts.

While looking like a "Greek God" is certainly possible without PED's, the reality is that most guys these days who do (and are professional athletes), typically are using them to help maintain that look. I dont think guys are using PED's all the time, they simply use them between fights and cycle on and off throughout the "offseason"(whenever that may be for that athlete)

As for Cormier, yes, I think he's got a legitimate shot at being the next champ. Great wrestling, a great camp to improve the striking game, and clearly a level of honesty and intelligence that will make him recognize his own weaknesses and strengths and seek to improve himself.
