Paul Daley VS Scott Smith December 4th

Quote:
Strikeforce has booked a match-up for their Dec. 4 show that is all but guaranteed to produce fireworks. As first reported by Carmichael Dave, and later confirmed by MMA Weekly and MMA Fighting, Paul Daley will make his Strikeforce debut against fellow slugger Scott Smith at Strikeforce “Henderson vs. Babalu.”

In a matchup with fireworks written all over it, kickboxer Paul Daley will take on slugger Scott Smith on Dec. 4 at Strikeforce: Henderson vs. Babalu in St. Louis.

First reported as in the works by CSNCalifornia.com, MMAFighting.com on Tuesday received confirmation from Strikeforce that the welterweight bout is set to go.

The fight will take place at 170 lbs. Even though he’s been competing at middleweight for years, Scott Smith recently told MMA Heat’s Karyn Bryant that it was time for him to move down to the welterweight division. According to the MMA Weekly report, Smith is already walking around at 185 lbs. and shouldn’t have any problems making the cut.

Making weight will be the least of Smith’s worries come fight week though. Paul Daley has great hands with legitimate knockout power which doesn’t bode well for Smith who has yet to show anything that resembles solid defense on the feet. It probably goes without saying that Daley is going to hit Smith in the face early and often. The question is, can Smith take those shots like he has in the past and pull off one of his classic come-from-behind KO’s?

Looks like this will be on the Babalu/Hendo card...

looks like they are proper setting up Scott Smith here. He has a very average ground game, limited wrestling and slightly heavy hands with poor technique. Looks to me like Strikeforce want to get Daley a big KO win to shoot him straight to a title shot or contender fight

Fun fight, but I reckon Smith is going to sleep.

Though you never quite know with that man.

I was about to post this but have to say I think Scott will win if he cuts the weight properly. But if he doesn't I think he'll gas and get ko'ed or tko'ed.

Scott's going to sleep. And this is a perfect fight for Daley to showcase some excellent technique..

Exactly what did Scott Smith ever do to Coker? Benji Radach hits like a mule kick lets put him in there with Smith. Awesome not only did he survive after that beating, he pulled out a win. Let's let Nick Diaz hit with a few hundred punches. No brain damage alright Smith let's see if you can avoid getting your head spin kicked into the stands with Le. Wow you really took a beating, but pulled one out again. Well lets let Le kick the crap out of you again. Paul Daley can really do some damage, where's Scott Smith at? What's next? Overeem needs a tune up after K-1, is Scott Smith available?

Makes me wonder if Scott Smith is taking fights that other fighters don't want.

Yeah, I think Scott Smith is a guy who is just not afraid to face anyone. He is known for his come from behind matches against people that he should've beat. Even look at his loses. His record includes fights against Tim Kennedy, James Irvin, Patrick Cote, Robbie Lawler, Terry Martin, Benji Radach, Nick Diaz, Cung Le, and now Paul Daley!

Daley vs. Smith Confirmed for Dec. 4 Strikeforce

Quote:

Strikeforce confirmed Wednesday that noted sluggers Paul Daley and Scott Smith will square off in a welterweight tilt at Strikeforce “Henderson vs. Babalu” Dec. 4 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.

A world-ranked welterweight, Daley (25-9-2) signed with Strikeforce in 2010 after defeating Jorge Masvidal at Shark Fights 13 on Sept. 11. Prior to that, Daley fought in the UFC with mixed results. After ripping off back-to-back knockouts against Martin Kampmann and Dustin Hazelett at UFC 103 and 108, respectively, the Brit faced “The Ultimate Fighter” season one competitor Josh Koscheck in a title-eliminator bout at UFC 113. Koscheck controlled Daley with his superior wrestling for three rounds, winning a unanimous decision. After the fight had ended, Daley walked up behind an unaware Koscheck and landed a sucker punch to Koscheck’s head. After the event, Daley was cut from the UFC, and company president Dana White stated Daley would never again fight in the organization.

This will mark Daley’s second run with Strikeforce. He previously fought under the Strikeforce/Elite XC banner from 2007 to 2008. He is also the former Cage Rage welterweight champion.

Smith (17-7) is coming off a knockout loss to former Strikeforce middleweight champion and sanshou stylist Cung Le in June. That bout was a rematch of their 2009 battle, in which Smith pulled off a shocking comeback to knock Le out in the third round. Noted for his heavy hands and durability, “Hands of Steel” owns several notable come-from-behind victories.

In 2006, Smith fought Matt Serra pupil Pete Sell at “The Ultimate Fighter” season four finale. After sustaining a crippling left hook to the liver, an obviously wounded Smith struggled to stay vertical. As Sell rushed in to finish, Smith unleashed a desperation haymaker, knocking Sell out and snatching victory from the jaws of defeat. Smith also came back to knock out hard-punching Benji Radach in the third round of their 2009 Strikeforce contest.

The card will also feature a main event attraction between former Pride welterweight and middleweight champion Dan Henderson and UFC veteran Renato "Babalu" Sobral as well as a heavyweight tilt between world-ranked Antonio Silva and Pride vet Valentijn Overeem.
