Zuffa being the owner of both UFC and WEC have to watch out for Zuffa’s best interests before looking out for anyone else’s, including their own company’s. UFC 119 had very little interest amongst fans, sure it had intriguing fights that educated fans wanted to see as in the Sherk and Dunham fight, which lived up to expectations. Chris Lytle and Matt Serra came to throw down as well as Matt Mitrione and Joey Beltran but, the main event lived up to less than expected and fans didn’t expect much; which doesn’t say a lot. Zuffa is a monster of an enterprise, giving them the financial leverage to take a loss on one of their endeavors to highlight another company they own.

UFC 119 had minimal buzz leading up to the event, fans complained about the content except for a few fights and none of those fights were significant to the title scene in any division, and only the Serra vs. Lytle fight was guaranteed fireworks. Rodrigo Nogueira was originally scheduled to fight Frank Mir, when Nogueira got injured; UFC put Mirko Cro-Cop against Mir and didn’t seem to acknowledge the consequences of putting together a half-assed main event. The possible reason could be Zuffa has a WEC event within days of UFC 119, and the WEC event is stacked, letting Zuffa make another company they own; shine.

Jose Aldo defending his belt against Manny Gamburyan is great because we get to witness the greatness of Aldo or watch Manny dethrone the king of that division, but more than that, we get a card that is truly stacked. The weak UFC 119 card doesn’t stand up to the performers on this card, Cerrone and Varner despise each other, Garcia going at Hominick, Horodecki and Ratcliff, not to mention the rebirth of Miguel Torres. UFC 119 doesn’t compare to this WEC card and UFC 119 was a pay-per-view event, is this the way Zuffa wanted it to appear, or just a coincidence.

WEC is a no fail event on Thursday September 30th, they haven’t left out too many of their big name fighters and Zuffa knows if they can get fans to pay for pay-per-view WEC events by taking a loss on one UFC event; it is worth it. UFC can afford to take a loss; they monopolize the MMA world and are efficient at taking out their competition. Wouldn’t Zuffa love it if there number 1 competitor was a company Zuffa owns?
