Before I say anything else, according to Wikipedia, Helio's record was 10-2-7. Next I was about to say that early MMA can be traced back to the lineage of prowrestling at the turn of the century. Back then wrestling was actually legitimate and the championships went kind've like boxing. It wasn't until about 1929 when a football player won the Heavyweight Championship at the time that legitimate prowrestling started to go the way of the dinosaurs. That same heavyweight championship is what the WWE, TNA and NWA heavyweight championships trace their lineage back to. Basically prowrestling de-evolved into something that is anything but legitimate. Never the less, while in its heyday, this type of prowrestling had various submissions and is what is today known as catch wrestling. So if you really trace that lineage then this is where we start. Here is a picture of the first Heavyweight Champion.
