Strikers vs grapplers

I have not seen too much UFC fights (started activly watching since 103 and trying to see as much of old fights I can) but I notice that grapplers win when faced strikers much more than strikers when put against grapplers. On top of my head I can only say Anderson Silva vs Demian Maia at UFC 112 and Thiago Alves vs Matt Hughes. Is grappling really that dominant over striking? Or am I missing something? :\

Shogun Rua and Lyoto Machida are more strikers than grapplers. As is Frankie Edgar (despite being called a 'wrestler', he is more of a boxer who uses wrestling to keep his opponent guessing). BJ Penn, whilst called a grappler, uses more striking. Jose Aldo, a striker.

Think you are missing something dude.

A great wrestler will usually have the upper hand in a fight against a great striker, from what i've seen, due to takedowns, top control, etc.. But a great striker will usually prevail against a great BJJ fighter... this is considering all the other skills both fighters have are average. Does this make sensE?
