Question UFC getting dull hurts general MMA?

The UFC as done wonders for MMA. I'm a long time fan.*

After Royce Gracie dominated with ground fighting people learned that was the way to go. Also since most actual street fights do go to the ground (mainly because of fear (not technique) so people want to keep their opponent close because of fear of getting hit) ground fighting is becoming in my opinion too popular.

*I would like to see more hitting then wrestling. I don't find it to thrilling anymore to watch a fight end because someone had their arm pulled on and tap out. I want to see someone hit or thrown to the ground and move on instead of most of the match played out on the ground.

I would like to see more Sanshou (punches, kicks and throws but no grappling) or Sanda (similar to Sanshou but knees included) fighting which use those rules. Or even more WCL (world combat league) fights.

*Is it just me or is the submission and hopes of ground and pound getting boring? **

Dude, someone is going to say it, so I'll just be the first to say it

"GO WATCH K-1!"

I mean seriously if you really want standup fights THAT badly, watch K-1 or any other kickboxing organization.

*MIXED MARTIAL ARTS* involves grappling, and always will. In fact I HEAVILY disagree with you that most "street fights end up on the ground" because in a street fight the LAST thing you want to do is end up on the HARD ground. MMA has somewhat forgiving mats/surfaces... unlike the hard tar/concrete surfaces in a true street fight.

Not to mention in a street fight, you NEVER want to go to the ground because you never know how many buddies the guy you're about to armbar has, and while you're RNC'ing the guy his buddies can come up and throw a soccer kick to your head.

Thats why MMA is actually getting to be less and less a representation of true "street fights" because you dont use the ground game that much in a street fight. The "cage" allows for 1 on 1 combat, that rarely ever happens in a "real life fight" because someone always has friends that are going to interrupt the single combat as soon as their buddy is losing.

As for the grappling, again its MIXED MARTIAL ARTS man, I'm a fan of standup, but lets face it grappling is a fairly safe way to fight and a much more methodical way of securing victory. In a standup battle you have a very good chance of being knocked out, even if you're the best standup fighter in the world (Heck, Anderson Silva got rocked by both Chael Sonnen AND Damien Maia).

Sure if you can easily win in a standup battle you take it, but as soon as its clear that the other guy might actually knock you out, you take him to the ground and try to finish the fight there.

The BIGGEST problem with all the grappling now is EVERYONE DOES IT, so its hard to finish submissions or ground and pound your way to victory because EVERYONE practices defending it now.

Sure I'd like to see more fights stay standing, but I realize its part of MMA... all I care about is seeing FINISHES, not DECISIONS. I want guys to FINISH fights, I dont care if its on the ground or standing.

Welcome to the forum mate!

And still I'm forced to ask, why did you chose this forum if MMA isn't what you want to watch? Grappling is becoming even more and more important in this sport these days, having control of where the fight takes place is the alpha and the omega...
You need to learn and appreciate the subtle nuances of wrestling and submissions to truly enjoy MMA as a sport

Sorry, I kinda posted the same thing as Ceasar above but I had to do it :P

Mma

[left]The WCL IS MMA they just have rules against ground fighting.
UFC and similar have rules as well just not against wrestling. Maybe I should have said what type of "MMA rule set would you prefer"?

As far as street fights go. I didn't say what the fighters would want to do. It is what happens in reality though not so much by choice but by instinct.
Grappling is a martial art and I'm not trying to limit it. I just want to see more stand up MMA boxing, mui thia, Shotokan, taekwondo, Wushu ect pitted against eachother. But not limited to kick boxing.
Just a prefrence. Maybe it is just me. That's why I added the poll. /LEFT]

The reason you dont see more of those "arts" is because they are easily defeated by good grapplers.

UFC 1 was pretty much an exhibition of why grappling vs striking = grappling wins.

Thats also why Dana White and Joe Silva put together matches with guys like Kimbo Slice and Houston Alexander, or Matt Serra vs Chris Lytle, or Akiyama vs Leben or Anderson Silva vs Forrest Griffin. They TRY to put some of those "slugfest" standup fights together as much as they can, but usually as soon as someone starts getting owned in the standup they take it to the ground.

As for all those "kicking" martial arts... the fact is kicks dont work when grappling is involved. Throw a kick and you risk being slammed on your ass.

I think you just want to watch SINGLE art martial artists fight each other. You dont want to see MIXED martial arts, you want Martial Art "A" vs Martial Art "B"

MMA now is more evolved than ever before and we're seeing what happens when guys come up training in EVERY aspect of fighting. Being one dimensional = easy to defeat.
