San Jose Payouts
Quote:
MMAWeekly.com has obtained the fighter salary information from the California State Athletic Commission for Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Noons II, featuring Nick Diaz and K.J. Noons in the main event. The event took place on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, Calif.
The following figures are based on the fighter salary information that promoters are required by law to submit to the state athletic commissions, including the winners' bonuses.
Although mixed martial arts fighters do not have collective bargaining or a union, the fighters' salaries are still public record, just as with every other major sport in the United States. Any undisclosed bonuses that a promoter also pays its fighters, but does not disclose to the athletic commissions (specifically, pay-per-view bonuses, fight of the night bonuses, etc.), are not included in the figures below.
MAIN CARD FIGHTERS:
-Nick Diaz: $50,000 (no win bonus) def. K.J. Noons $10,000
-Josh Thomson: $50,000 (no win bonus) def. Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante: $40,000
-Marloes Coenen: $3,000 (includes $1,000 win bonus) def. Sarah Kaufman: $20,000
-Tyron Woodley: $15,000 (includes $7,500 win bonus) def. Andre Galvao: $10,000
PRELIMINARY CARD FIGHTERS:
-James Terry: $3,000 (includes $1,500 win bonus) def. David Marshall: $1,500
-Josh McDonald: $3,000 (includes $1,500 win bonus) def. Ron Keslar: $1,500
-Jess Bouscal: $3,000 (includes $1,500 win bonus) def. Luis Mendoza: $1,500
STRIKEFORCE: DIAZ VS. NOONS II FIGHTER PAYROLL: $211,500

Wow I expected Coenen to get more than that. I mean 3,000 dollars that includes a 1,000 dollar win bonus is crazy.

Don't be a mma fighter unless it's for the love of the sport.

Although this is true, payouts like some of these don't allow fighters to even train full time. This is their job, yet they don't make neary enough to live off of it so they more than likely have to have other sources of income.

These are almost laughable payouts.
Coenen gets a primo armbar after getting GnPed like that, and gets 3,000! What's the point in even fighting for Strikeforce? She could make the same amount fighting equal competition in shows where she didn't have to fly across the world, then fly back to Amsterdam to fight next week! What the hell was the point in schooling some half assed opponent for chump change in the second largest Org in the US?
Overall these payouts are a joke compared to Strikeforce's competition. The combined payouts for 2 title fights doesn't even break 60K. On the local bush league level, that's cool, its understandable. But when you're hyping your Org to the entire world, its almost disgusting.

Sorry, don't have one. Just assumed that since they were directly competing with the UFC they believed they were the UFC's equal, my mistake...
This still doesn't address the issue of Strikeforce way overhyping themselves to the world and then shortchanging their fighters.
