Weekend Fights (15th -17th Oct)
Apart from UFC 120, there is some good fights going on involving smaller promotions. Below is a summary of them all.
Friday 15th Oct
Jason High (10-3) v Keto Allen (5-0): Dream and UFC vet High fights for the 2nd time since his UFC release, taking on the unbeaten Keto Allen. High won his last fight in August against Jordan Mein (17-6), and also holds career wins over Andrei Galvao and Kevin Burns. Allen is unbeaten in his MMA career so far, and has finiashed all 5 fights by TKO or Submission. Should be an intriguing fight.
Saturday 16th Oct
Marloes Coenen (18-4) v Lena Buytendijk (0-1): Fresh off her Strikeforce title win, Coenen fight just a week later against unknown Buytendijk. Should be an easy win for Coenen.
Welterweight tournament 1st round
Nick Thompson (38-12) v Siyar Bahadurzada (16-4): MMA vet Thompson makes his return after an August knockout loss at Sengoku against Afghan prospect Bahadurzada. Thompson is currently on a 3 fight losing skid, however it should not be forgotten what a capable fighter he is, as his career includes a 2009 win over Paul Daley, and also wins over eddie Alvarez and Josh Neer. Bahadurza is on a 3 fight winning streak, and knocked out Carlos Pereira (17-8) in his last fight in August.
Roan Carneiro (13-8) vs Luis Ramos (16-5): Carneiro fights for just the 2nd time since his 2008 UFC release against Luis Ramos. In his lone post UFC appearance, Carneiro beat Jorge Patino (23-11) at Shine fights in 2009. In his career, he also holds wins over Rich Clementi, Matt Horwich and Tony DeSouza. Ramos has won 7 of his last 8 fights, and beat Igor Fernandes (11-4) in his last fight in August.
David Bielkheden (15-7) v Tommy Depret (7-3): Bielkheden has gone 3-0 since his 1-2 stint in the UFC, and he takes on Belgium born Depret, who has had mixed results in his short career. Bielkheden TKO'd Musa Khamanaev (3-1) in his last fight and did the same to Ville Rasanen (7-2) before that. Depret has lost 3 of his last 5 fights, but did win his last fight against Vincent Latoel (13-13); however, this should be a comfortable win for Bielkheden.
Sergey Golyaev (17-7) v John Alessio (29-13): In the final welterweight tournament match-up, the well travelled John Alessio, who in his career has fought for the UFC, WEC, Pride and Dream, takes on Sergey Golyaev, who has won 9 of his last 10 fights. Alessio is on a 5 fight winning streak, which includes a July submission of War Machine, and a 2009 knockout of Luigi Fioravanti. Golyaev famously beat Takanori Gomi in Sengoku in 2009, and in his last fight he knocked out Ivan Buchinger (12-1) in 20 seconds. Should be a good fight, which could go either way.
This Event also has kickboxing fights involving Errol Zimmerman, Gokhan Saki and Stefan Leko.
Ken Shamrock (27-13) v Johnathan Ivey (29-42): UFC hall of famer Shamrock, just 3-9 in his last 12 fights, makes his first MMA appearance since the July 1st round TKO loss to Pedro Rizzo. He fights MMA vet Ivey, who also strangely is 3-9 in his last 12 fights. Shamrock submitted Ross Clifton in his fight before that, but tested positive for steroids soon after. Ivey has also fought the who's who of MMA - Ricco Rodriguez, Dan Severn and Ben Rothwell, however he hasnt beat any of them. The battle of the oldies probably won't be pretty, and could go either way.
Ricco Rodriguez (44-11) v Mike Perez (6-7): Former UFC heavyweight champion Rodriguez makes the drop to lightheavyweight to take on MMA vet Perez. Rodriguez, who is on a 10 fight win streak and has turned his life around lately, and its rumoured a UFC call up may happen with a win here. During his win streak, he has beaten Moise rimbon, and knocked out Travis Fulton with a headkick. Perez hasn't fought sinse 2009, in which he got knocked out by debutant Sammy Collingwood. This should be an easy win for Rodriguez.
Chris Barnett (5-0) v Eric Prindle (1-1): In a battle of giants, unbeaten 265 pound heavyweight prospect Chris Barnett returns against 290 pound rookie Prindle. Barnett has won 4 of his 5 fights by TKO, and in his last fight he knocked out Jay White (4-6) in the 1st round. He fights Eric Prindle, who is just 1-1 and hasn't fought for over 2 years. Expect Barnett to add another knockout to his record in this one.
Eduard Folayang (8-1) v Vuyisile Colossa (2-0): The Phillipines meets South africa in this lightweight showdown between prospects. Folayang has finished 6 of his 8 wins in the 1st round, and he faces Colossa who has finished his 2 professional fights. Should be a good battle between prospects.
Also saturday night in boxing, Vitali Klitchko fights Shannon Briggs
