What did he do exactly to get them? I think he should defend his belt and if he can do that, then he can be called America's Best and get title shots in other weight divisions.
You know, I was baffled when they announced the fight - it made no sense to me that he gets a title shot outside of his weight, while not defending his own title since the WW division was formed. Yeah, you can argue DSE is trying to intrigue the American fans with the American vs 'Foreigner' BS, but I dont buy it...Why would I, I am the hardcore MMA fan?? And so are you my friend.
The sad thing is that DSE in not trying to impress someone like you or myself - they already have our loyalty
- they are trying to earn a whole new base of fans, American or not. It's a damn business, and it all revolves around the almight dollar.
America's best? Hell no! But the sound of it makes you wanna watch him fight if you are an American and you dont know who this guy is...Pride is trying to appeal to the american pride, and if you ask me the 'honorary' nickname replacement is nothing short of a business strategy, and 'Dangerous' Dan 'Hollywood' Henderon, or whatever you wanna call him is fully aware of this. He wants to have more shows is Vegas because he wants to fight in his home country in front of his own fans.
I guess it s a win for the average MMA fan, a win for Hendo and an attempt to financial uprise for DSE. Wand has nothing to lose (I get the feeling the fight might be set up so that Wand wins a tough, highly entartaining bout), the only losers in this situation are the Hardcore Pride fans....but then again are we? - We're gonna get a hell of a show!
Alright...I m done ranting now.
