Ed Fishman In Negotiations To Buy PRIDE

Ed Fishman is a revolutionary in the modern gaming industry. Can he do the same for modern day mixed martial arts? Struggling to remain competitive, Fishman is looking to lead the resurgence of the Pride Fighting Championships.

The president of Pride USA, Fishman is currently in negotiations to purchase Pride FC outright. Sources indicate that he is no longer interested in being a non-controlling investor in the promotion, but wants to own and direct the worldwide operations of the company.

Mixed martial arts is emerging as one of the fastest growing sports and entertainment properties in the world, but the longtime Japanese promotion has struggled recently with the loss of their television contract in Japan. It is believed that Fishman wants to take control so that he can lead the promotion out of its downturn. Apparently, there are already several international sponsorship deals, as well as major new television deals already in the works and close to being finalized.

What do you guys think of this news? I think it would be good for PRIDE in the US because Fishman will probably have a better idea what PRIDE fans in the US want to see. In Japan they could suffer though, because Japanese don't really care for companies that are ran buy foreigners. Fishman definitely has the cash to make this happen. I guess we'll just see how things play out.

If the Japanese sell control of PRIDE to a foreigner, then PRIDE could dramtically change.

I"m not sure about this one. Alot of things could change. Its hard to predict everything.

Would the Fighters feel loyalty to the new ownership? Can the new ownership compete in salaries with the UFC? Would the new ownership treat the fighters the same? and if not would that cause some of there headliners to leave for parts unknown?

Would the Japanese Fans quit supporting PRIDE if an American owns it? Would PRIDE Focus on N. America and ignore or not pay proper attention to its homebase?

Alot of thought and I for one couldnt predict any of it.

This is almost like PRIDE being taken over. NEw Owners can be great(Zuffa for UFC) or this could doom the company in the long run.

is it good to solve pride's popularity problem in america while creating a problem with your most loyal fans in japan? i think he would have the creative ability to make pride more successful but at what cost? i guess we'll have to watch this play out a little more.
