Ricco Rodriguez fails to make weight for his LHW debut...by 10 pounds.

Rodriguez looked extremely exhausted, barely walking to step on the scales. But for some unknown reason, the results were not announced during the weigh-ins, so I had to approach Rodriguez's manager Tiago Okamura to ask if his client actually made weight. Okamura revealed that Rodriguez weighed around 215 pounds, also stating the following: "Ricco had a very tough time making weight because of the old injury that came back two days ago. He trained really hard. He also had a staph infection one month ago, so it's not so easy to cut so much weight after a long recovery process. We settled the issue with Daniel Tabera and his camp, so the fight will go as planned."

Later on, I had an interview with Ricco Rodriguez, who revealed that he decided to give up 20% of his fighting purse to Daniel Tabera: "I'm a professional fighter. What happened today was a result of many factors, but after all it's me who did a mistake, and I have to pay for it. I didn't have to do it, but I felt that it's not Daniel's fault. Sucks for Ricco, dude actually looks like he has worked hard to shed the weight.

I am sure Ricco will be able to make weight for his next fight. Its the first time Ricco has had to cut weight as well. I gotta say I have long liked Ricco and despite the nasty shit people have said about him the fact that he volunteered to give his opponent 20% of his purse despite nothing requiring him to proves IMO that he is really trying to be a better person. I hope Ricco isn't to drained to perform it would be a shame if he derailed his comeback.

First time at a new weight is always going to be hard, takes experience to gauge the cut properly, especially for a guy who has dropped so much weight so fast. I think he can still make 205 in the future and it was cool of him to man up.

Who's the guy in the background putting up his dukes and why is he doing it?

The other guy is stupid for still taking this fight. Case in point, Yoshida/Anthony Johnson. Yeah, getting 20 percent of the other dudes purse is cool, but you are giving a huge advantage to the other fighter when you are giving up more then five pounds at the weigh ins. The advantage is going to be a lot more when it comes to actual fight time.

Didn't just fail, he epic failed. Him missing is making Gina look like she almost made weight. The only difference is nobody was waiting for the towel to drop this time.

I'm willing to give him a pass on this. It's his first time fighting at LHW and with all these factors involved I can see how he didn't make weight. If it's true that he gave 20% of his purse to the other guy then that's a sign he's really trying. I haven't seen the fight yet, but judging from the pictures that a whole new Ricco.
