Diaz re-signs with StrikeForce
Quote:
You can officially stop wondering whether Nick Diaz will leave Strikeforce in the near future to re-sign with the UFC.
Strikeforce announced Tuesday afternoon that they had signed their welterweight champion to a new mutli-year agreement. Exact terms of the agreement were not announced.
"I'm looking forward to continuing my career with Strikeforce," Diaz stated in a press release. "When I first got here, there weren't a lot of great 170 pound fighters for me to fight, but that's definitely changed. There's a lot of really good fighters in the division now and I'm ready to fight anyone who thinks they can beat me."
Diaz's next title defense is scheduled for Jan. 29 against Evangelista "Cyborg" Santos.
Since his controversial loss to KJ Noons in 2007, the 27-year-old has won eight fights in a row. That is also the only loss on his record since his departure from the UFC in 2006. His win over Takanori Gomi in 2007 was ruled a no contest after he tested positive for marijuana after the fight.
His overall MMA record is 23-7 with 1 no contest.

Well, at least now the homies in the UFC have no reason to be scared :P
Nah, good on Diaz - He'd rather be a big fish in a small pond that the other way around, and who can blame him?

I kind of figured he would stay in Strikeforce. If he went to the UFC he would have to deal with Jake Shields if they were both contenders and they are training partners.

This is a bummer. Pretty much everyone of the top ten WW's are in the UFC. I would really have liked to see how much better Diaz has really gotten since he left the UFC.

Another bad thing for any WW prospects in strikeforce, there arent a whole lot of known guys at that weight class for them to build there names against. To move from prospect to contender, you need to be a top guy. Strikeforce only has two guys at WW that can make any kind of arguement at being in the top ten, and neither of them has any business near the top five. Guys like Woodley are gonna have a hard time breaking into the top ten at WW with severly limited competition in Strikeforce right now.

I can. I congratulate guys looking to push themselves. He has said before he would beat GSP or Anderson....then why not give yourself a chance of even proving it?
I don't respect guys who want respect but don't push themselves to prove they should get it. SF offers close to nothing in the 170 lb division...why sit there and not try to push yourself as a fighter?

At least there is the possibility of Diaz-Noons II and Diaz-Daley!
A long shot would be Diaz-Mayhem...but i don't think so atm.

Well he'll be making basically the same kind of money in SF and he can still fight in any other orginazation he wants....and he doesn't have to worry about being cut over a minor dispute such as a video game.....
His little brother Nate and his best friend Jake are WWs in the UFC right now.. so this was pretty much a no brainer..
