Alistair Overeem. Your Expectations. Final thread.

Why do I get a feeling that Overeem's hype already starts to exaggerate his skills a little. I mean if I weren't following his career and kept reading everything that is being posted in UFC forum (in other words, here), I would definitely get a feeling that Alistair is someone who would literally demolish every UFC heavyweight and keep the belt as long as Anderson Silva or even more than that. Am I the only one who thinks that Overeem is hyped way too much? I'm looking right now on the front page and see the TOP 8 threads and 3 of them are about Alistair who never stepped his foot in the octagon.

So I made one more to clarify everything with a poll.

I've had great expectations on Cro Cop, then he fought Gonzaga...
I've had great expectations on Mousasi, then he fought Lawal...
I've had great expectations on Henderson, then he fougt Shields...
I've had great expectations on Fedor, then he fought Werdum...
I've had great expectations on Shogun, then he fought Griffin and Coleman... but he managed to return in his best shape

Favorite fighters:
1. Badr Hari
2. Remy Bonjasky
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Anderson Silva
5. Alistair Overeem

Went with.. Alistair will get the belt and defend it 2-3 times

The first option is impossible even for the Reem

Stop with the Overeem threads in the UFC section. He does not fight in the UFC.

I selected "Alistair will get the belt and lose it quickly". I just don't see him being that dominant as Silva. and I don't see him winning K-1 GP 2011 also... With DREAM and SF rosters it's easy to rule for The Reem, let alone the fact that even Fedor scared himself to death and found all kinds of excuses for not accepting the fight... or M-1, but it doesn't matter.

Favorite fighters:
1. Badr Hari
2. Remy Bonjasky
3. Mauricio Rua
4. Anderson Silva
5. Alistair Overeem

Be a #1 contender. Don't see him ever holding the UFC HW belt.

You had high expectations to these guy's just before they lost? Mousasi lost once, in how many years? Cro Cop was still good when he lost. Shogun is the champion isn't he? And how could you have high expectations to a guy who hadn't lost nearly in 1o years?

We don't know. He is starting over in MMA as a HW and has looked really good against mediocre/bad competition. Lots of guys do that and then fold as soon as they hit a good fighter, some go on dominating other top 10 fighters. Until he fights a top 10 HW we are just guessing.

I think he is a legit top 10 HW, his striking alone is enough for that but can he handle a decent HW wrestler like Carwin/Velasquez/Lesnar? I don't know.

Im a big fan of the REEM but i'm starting to look past the hype bubble and his wrestling skill is an important question mark.

Well most of his MMA wins are by Guillotine so he must be doing something right though.

To ask if Overeem would become as dominant as Silva I think is expecting too much. I do think he could be a title contender and maybe win the UFC title but not be as dominant as Silva. However, I have been known to be wrong and this is MMA!
