Barnett Withdraws License Application

Quote:

Josh Gross of ESPN is reporting that Josh Barnett officially withdrew his license application with the California State Athletic Commission. According to Gross, because of the withdrawal, "CSAC can't sanction, suspend, fine Barnett. Matter is tabled unless Barnett asks for license in state requiring resolution of Calif. issues." He noted that "Coker & Barnett are playing system as it's designed," and that Barnett won't be able to fight in California, New Jersey, Nevada, and Ohio, amongst other states. He can fight in some other states like Georgia, Texas and Tennessee if he passes a drug test.

I don't even know what this means. Is Coker going to arrange Barnett's fights in safe venues? Is he out?

This is disgusting. Why keep around this trouble-maker? What does he bring to Strikeforce except unnecessary headaches?

Hammerlock2.0 01-31-2011 10:04 AM

What that tells me is that his fight is going to happen in Japan.

Which also means that if he wins, his next fight will also happen in Japan and what if he advances to the final? Is California-based organization going to organize the show in Japan instead of Cali just because of Barnett? Sounds ridiculous. And if he wins the tournament, it'll be more ridiculous, how can you promote this kind of champion?

I can only hope that Barnett is the cause of another promotion going belly up:)

It definitely raises certain issues, as I think many of us have Barnett pegged as a sure thing for the finals. As was previously stated, does this mean that all three of his fights will be scheduled to take place in Japan? Definitely a bit of a headache.

Why would he withdrawl unless he's on the roids still?

Well, have a StrikeForce event in Japan, and then later co-promote with DREAM and have him fight under the DREAM banner but the rules of the match are still for the tournament. And if he makes it to the finals, then another Strikeforce event in Japan. The tournament is practically in a span of a year so its doable I think. so SF > DREAM > SF or SF > DREAM > K-1. They have K-1 qualification matches in a DREAM event and vice versa so its not unusual. They are just ducking places where he failed drug tests and are looking around for places that will let him fight with or without a drug test, so sad.

If Barnett fights like he did against Mighty Mo, he might not make it past the Sam's Club tire changer.

I agree that it will be a headache. Barnett can't become champion by winning the tournament though. Last I heard Overeem's title wasn't going to be up for grabs in the tournament.

Nevertheless it is still a hassle to center this all around Barnett.
